Urgent- Blood in Eye and remicade

Hi All,
Caitlyn had a nose bleed last night and then woke up with blood in her eye this morning. I read that remicade can cause bleeding issues. I called her GI and he said he never heard of remicade causing bleeding into the eye. Have any of you heard of this as a side effect? I am freaking out here! (Also have a call into her regular pedi waiting to hear back from them).

Hi,
It might look scary but a bloody nose can drain via the tear duct into the eye. I don't believe Remicade would have anything to do with this. So hard not to freak out about these little things when you are on the alert!

Hi all we ended up spending four hours in the er. They diagnosed her with a subconjunctival hemorrhage. The blood was on the eyeball itself. They checked her labs and her platelet and everything were okay. The doctor said remicade can cause bleeding issues but at this point since the labs were normal she can get the next dose of remicade next week.

Good to hear that her eye will be ok And she is still able to continue on schedule with her infusion !

Kim, I feel so badly for Caitlyn, seems she just can't get a break! I hope the remicade kicks in really soon! She (and you) deserve a break here! :ghug:
