Okay I was diagnosed in June of this year 2011. I have no symptoms but found out it was crohns through a colonoscophy. After endocort and attempts at Imuran they are putting me on Remicade. I have never had symptoms except for blood in my stool....

Tonight I am up... my stomach is burning and cramping, i feel like i could throw up. Its like my stomach is bloating all over, but it burns horribly and every now and then I feel like i might vomit. Then it cramps again. I am miserable... is this a side effect of crohns? I have felt nauseas on and off all day.

I had a CT scan yesterday... could it be a side effect from the injection????

Please help!

Hi Steelek5:

Yikes. I'd suggest going to Emerg...it might be a reaction to the CT scan dye, or it could also be a blockage. Some of the symptoms you're describing sounds like the symptoms of a blockage. If it gets any worse, I'd consider heading to the hospital.

I hope your symptoms ease up real soon...

Kismet

Sorry you are in so much pain. I would definitely talk to your doctor since this is different from the way your disease has acted up to now. You might just have a stomach bug too. I hope you start feeling better soon, keep us posted as to how you are doing.

I know this sounds horrible, Asymptomatic, i keep telling myself this but I don't know if this is what everyone else with Crohns goes through... or is mine that bad. My doctor does have her on call number but I wouldn't want to call for something unless I knew it was urgent....

I know they all say go to the emergency room but what if this is just something I ate... how long does one of these fits last if it truly is a symptom... if its a blockage what happens next... continues vomiting until I get to the hospital?

The injection shouldn't cause any pain, although you can start see slight dizzyness sometimes. But like someone mentioned, the contrast can, if you have an obstruction and you drink a lot of contrast, because of how heavy it is, it will push against the obstruction.

If you had to drink contrast, is it all out yet?

Yes, I agree with the others, don't suffer too long, could cause worse problems. Keep us updated on you ok??

No actually, i didn't go to the bathroom yesterday and today I went but I don't think the contrast came out... If its like the contract of the small bowel follow through then definitely know as it is normally a chalk color????

I drank plenty of liquids... As i said I don't have symptoms like diarrhea or anything so its a tiny surprising it has came but not that surprising you know...

Thanks for the advice and support. I am so glad I have found this forum.

Try drinking a glass of hot water, if there is anything will should move out the bowels. Keep us posted.

i get symptoms like this every few months. sometimes wakes me through the night. by usually goes away after a horrible session of massive bowel evacuation. if you don't get relief from going to the bathroom or can't i wouldn't hesitate going to the emerg.

my helpful advice I hope

HI:)...What you are describing sounds similar to me when I am having a Crohns Flare. The ER could probably hook you up with what I think is Saline Solution ?water ( the solution they give you intraveniously, that helps you to be hydrated, Body Scans &or exrays, and pain medicines to let you rest.
I might be a different time zone from you..so ignore me on my advice if it's old.
Have you tried to coat the burning? Peptobismal helps. If I am out, I take tums.....usually before and after a meal. They help:ywow:

Hmmm... yeah pain meds sound great to help me sleep...
i just want the pain to stop or throw up/ bowel evacuation as ITSMEAGAIN would say. Not sure but I will let you know... if it gets worse or persists I will go to the doctors...

I am definitely calling my Crohns doctor tomorrow... Do you guys have something to help with the flair ups when it is bad...? Something they can subscribe rather than the bi-monthly remicade trips?

Well, if you're in pain it's important to know it and to get help, just saying that. (some people smoke joints to avoid pain and don't even realise they are really sick)

But many people have different tricks to avoid pain. Some take painkillers (you can't take the NSAID kind btw), you can take things that stops inflammation, many harmless supplements, herbs, vitamins have abilities to stop inflammation. You can listen to relaxing music, which will relax your body, stop you from cramping and relieve pain and pressure.

edit: harmless

if it really is too much too handle for the night you can always contact a hospital, ER departments have intravenous painkillers that work within a few minutes

Sometimes my doctors have prescribed benyl to calm the cramping. I also have some anti-nausea medicines that I keep on hand when I have attacks. Hydrocodone is a good pain killer because helps with pain and calms the colon - from what the doctor told me. You could always try an over the counter antacid or stomach soother like Mylanta or Pepto Bismol.

Your best bet is to call and talk to the doctor on call and see wha they want you to do. Or, if you can wait until morning, you can do that too.

Never feel bad about going to ER or calling out a ambulance if you are worried and have pain. I had chest pain in march and got them out, it was pain id never had, ECG showed abnormal, but everthing else was ok. No heart attack. Then I went to ER on the following wed as the pain got so bad. Everything ok, turned out it was a nasty lung virus caused by my immune been down due to my undiagnosed IBD. Was diagnosed in Aug. I always used to feel silly and that I was bothering people, I think people thought why was I always ill. Now I know why. Good luck to you steelek5. Hope you ok?

Wonder if this is to some extent a side effect of entocort...

How are you doing? Has the pain gone away?

I have had about 5 instances in the past year of severe abdominal pain. The pain was extemely intense. I would describe it as really strong contracting cramps and spasms that took my breath away. The pain was similar in intensity and feeling (although different location) to the cramps I had during labor during child birth.

When I described the pain to my GI I noted that the pain was in my stomach, under my ribs and that I sometimes vomited which slightly reduced the pain. The pain generally would go away after a night's sleep and the next day my stomach would be sore.

My GI said that because the pain was above the belly button and NOT relieved by having a bowel movement, it wasn't crohn's but was reflux. I had a colonoscopy a week or so after one of the episodes and there were no signs of a stricture.

I have weaned off the entocort and am doing well with only taking 6 mp.

I agree with my GI and think in my case the pain was caused by reflux. I think the reflux was triggered by something I ate (e.g., greasy food & citric acid - big greasy hamburger and a margarita; fibrous food - brussel sprouts).

I wonder whether the entocort made me more susceptible to reflux. I have been off of entocort for a few months and haven't had any episodes (knock on wood).

I think the abdominal pain I had, and what you are describing, is painful, scary and sounds like it could be a stricture or obstruction! How do you tell the difference? I don't know.

My pain was something that went away after a few hours (3 hours or a night's sleep).

Others on here - if you have a stricture or obstruction does the pain come and go or is it constant?

@ Jane, I was blocked, projectile vomiting and explosive diarrhea, the pain is constant, doesn't ebb and flow, stays the same, nothing in the world gets rid of it, farting and BMs don't help, painkillers are useless, can't sleep, can't move, can't even speak! I screamed all the way to A&E, frightened the bloody hell out of the 2 paramedics!
That's my experience anyway!

steele, how you doing? Let us know you're ok

Hi Everyone,
My pain continued last night for about three hours. Finally I was able to fall asleep probably from peer exhaustion. Thank you everyone for your support. I do think that was a flair up, but from what it sounds like reading all these posts is that it was a minor one. For someone like me with no symptoms it was nuts.

the craziest part was the burning sensation combined with cramping from my pelvic to my rib cage... maybe it was reflux...

I really appreciate all the support and concern. I do not know where I would be without this forum.
