Very confused

Hi all

I have diagnosed with CD after gallbladder removal and I took prendisone(cortisone) tablets for 3 months and the diarrhea stopped after that and my doc told me maybe it is not CD and he told me to cut IMURAN AND PENTASA and I did that .... After couple months the diarrhea came again and I did colonoscopy and he told me Yes this is CD and he told me to take prendisone for 3 months again and from 3 years i'm in remission ago I'm taking
IMURAN + ASACOL + VACONTYL (tablets for diarrhea ) everyday .

If I forget to take imuran or asacol for 1 day I go to bathroom 2 or 3 times per day . or even if I cut the VACONTYL I got diarrhea even when I take imuran and asacol regularly ... IS THIS NORMAL ? I CANT cut the diarrhea tablets even when I'm in remission .... I'm really confused very much dont know what can I do ? Is really I have CD ? or not ?

Alot of doctors they search for money only and they dont care about patient health ..... Any advice please ? is there any tests that can confirm ?

My diagnosis was confirmed through the biopsies taken during a colonoscopy. You could try getting a second opinion and requesting that test.

I do not usually have too much diarrhea when I am in remission, but I know some people do and take medications to manage it.

How did your doctor determine you were in remission? Through symptoms alone, blood tests, other?

Sounds like Crohn's. If you want to maintain your current lifestyle you'll need to be on medications to keep Crohn's in check, it is a persistent disease, and drugs do not cure it, you can't simply take them for x amount of time then come off and be healthy.

If you want to reduce medications it would likely require an entire lifestyle change, limited diets etc. and you'd still need to be under medical supervision because crohn's can manifest asymptomatically.

Thank you for your answer .... My last colonoscopy was NORMAL .... CBC CRP ESR NORMAL .... and my dr said i'm in remission ... By the way about diet : what food should I avoid because my dr told me just to avoid spicy food and any thing annoying me i should avoid it ... I have read that DAIRY FOODS such as cow milk are dangerous and can activate the CD but before that I was drinking without any problem but LACTOSE FREE MILK and I didn't get any problem ... So I'm confused is drinking milk safe ? And I must stay on Imuran and Asacole right ?

Avoid large amount of sugar / refined carbohydrates.

Try gluten free to see if it helps, many with CD are gluten inolerant so it's always good to find out

Beyond that it's really different from patient to patient. I can have all the milk I want. I can't have potatoes or rice which are staples in the diets of many with CD.

Make sure you're taking in enough healthy fibers to maintain your gut flora so your food tolerances don't progress. You may want to take a fiber supplement like Fitness Fiber by ON.

1. Imuran builds up in your system. So missing a single day SHOULD NOT result in diarrhea. I do not believe that is the culprit.

2. Asacol acts topically. However, if the colonoscopy was clear, it doesn't make sense to me that missing Asacol for one day would result in diarrhea.

3. I have to wonder if you have active inflammation up higher where the colonoscopy couldn't reach.

Perhaps a small bowel series would indicate inflammation past the large intestine. When I was first dx in 2013 my colonoscopy was perfect just a few polyps. Pain and symptoms continued and small bowel series found the inflammation. Just a thought. Good luck

Hi my Crohns is also in the small bowel.Dx by a CT scan, so ask docs if it may be your small bowel that's affected, do you take imodium or similar to help with thickening the stool?. Best wishes and good luck..

With Imuran + Asacol + imodium I'm ok ... I was wondering is there any interaction between imuran and asacol ? Because I read some issues there is some risks ?

Should I still use imuran for lifetime ? even with normal endoscopy ?
