Hi, I am on azathioprine going on nearly four months now and I am concerned about the skin cancer risk. I live in England so we don't get much sun but still I am considering year-round sun cream on exposed body parts. I know this is going to affect Vit D absorption. What do people supplement please? I have heard it can be beneficial to supplement doses that exceed current national guidelines.

I use D-3 in caplets. They are 5,000 iu and use varying amounts depending on the season. In the winter, when I get almost zero sun I take around 20,000 iu a day. Some do not need that much some need more.

The key is to get your blood level of D checked regularly until you get to the range you want to be at. Then adjust the dosage accordingly.

In the end, it's not how much you take that you go by. You take an amount that gets your blood level where it needs to be without taking too much.

Vitamin K helps your body use the D properly.

I may be mistaken, but I have heard in England they don't have non prescription supplements in any meaningful dosages. The dosage is so low it's hard to get any beneficial results from them.

Good luck

Dan
