Hi Everyone,
Just have a question about vitamins and supplements. I currently take a multi vitamin and vitamin D. I also do B12 shots monthly. I am looking to start probiotics or acidophilus. Does anyone take probiotics? How much do u take? And where do u purchase it from? I am in Ontario.

Thanks for any help!

My vitamin & supplement regime was calcium, vitamin D and iron. There are a lot of us here that have had issues with anaemia, either due to bleeding (which was my issue), or having issues with meat. I'd check into have your doctor run blood work to check for that. The issue with iron is that it can be hard on the stomach, even for people who don't have GI issues. Make sure you check with your doctor first.

I was never one to believe in probiotics, I can't speak to those, although I know others here swear by them.

My experience has been that over the counter probiotics are a huge waste of money. IMO, some simple homemade sauerkraut will do much more than the probiotics. Basic sauerkraut is easy to make at home and readily available at the store. If you buy it, make sure it's naturally fermented and not made with vinegar. I try to eat some (~1/2-1 cup) in the morning and again in the evening. Recipes for homemade kraut are readily available on the net.

I like probiotics, I've noticed they really help to slow down diarrhea when I'm flaring. Generally I take the garden of life brand but during or after an antiobiotic regimen Align seems to work the best. I follow the suggested serving at first and then slowly increase to 2 or 3 times that after I know it's not making me worse.

I am using prescript assist. Many different strains of bacteria. Can't say it has really made any huge difference but I am stable so not sure how I would notice.
Not cheap but it is supposed to be better than average.
It has not caused me any problems either.

Home made saurkraut is an excellent way of getting useful bacteria in the guts. Pretty easy to make also. Store bought is usually pasteurized, therefore useless for that purpose.
