Hi All,

I was wondering if anyone else suffered a slight voice loss or weak voice when taking Prednisone. It usually happens in the late afternoon. I have just started back on Pred, 20mg for 5 days now. I remember this happened last time I was on Pred as well.

My Chrons is much better now and I will be going on Remicade in the fall.

Have a great day!

Hi jjs16.. Welcome to the forum.. What part of Ontario do you hail from? anyway, I am on pred.. been on/off it since late last year.. never experienced any voice loss. My highest dose was 40 mg a day, currently on 22.5 mg a day and tapering off (or so I hope).. Do you have insurance coverage for the cost of the remicade treatments?

JJS, actually now that you mentioned it, I have experienced a problem with my voice...I didn't really think anything about it until I read your post...I wouldn't say my voice gets weak, but as the day goes on, I feel as I have to continually "clear" my throat...I feels like I get a grain of sand in my throat when I start to say something...I'm on pred at the time but tapering down...I started at 40mg, now I'm at 10 (just started 10mg today)...Also, I've noticed a little bit of blurred vision...That has just recently started...Seems like the side effects of the pred would decrease and the dosage decreases, but I seem to be getting more...Hope this helps...Have a good day

Prednisone kicks up my stomach acid and by the afternoon by voice can get raspy due to the excessive acid. Bumping up my prilosec helps but doesn't eliminate the problem at the higher dosage of prednisone (>= 20mg).

Well, I've tapered down to 5 mg of pred... and went thru a rough patch at 15 - 20mg
doc says she thought it was pred withdrawal, not a flare. seems she was right. As I continued to taper, these symptoms went away. Having gone thru withdrawal of a number of other things (I won't go into those here) I concur it felt like withdrawal. Its funny that the body can develop a dependance, then throw a tantrum when its gone
