I sent a message before on pred and ldn but now theres a new issue i thought someone may have had experience with.

my 15 yr old daughter was doing well at 4.5 mg LDN and apriso until a flare from emotional stress from losing her dad recently unexpectly.

during her 5 days in hospital she was on all meds except LDN including IV steriods, discharged with 40mg pred. We started LDN again at 4.5 mg when she got home. her pain seemed to come back after a few days on LDN so i took her off LDN until she was down to 25 mg pred.

now after being on 25 mg pred and LDN for 5 days she is feeling sick again (chest pains, pain under ribs, quizzy)

i dont know if the ill feeling is from the pred or do you think i take her off the LDN again until she is down to 10 mg of pred and start over at 1.5 mg LDN ???
I just hate to take her back to GI because all they ever want to do is throw more predn down her.

confused..............as usual
thanks sharon

Hey DustKat, do you know more about LDN or know someone on the forum who does?

Sorry leahsmom but I really don't know anything about LDN. It sounds like the LDN is what's causing the issue if not the combination of the two since every time you start her up on LDN she gets sick and once you take her off it and uses just the Pred she gets better. I'm wondering if maybe the sick feeling is a side effect of LDN that might go away with time but I'm really not sure. Maybe you could also try contacting your local pharmacist for possible answers.

Although its also possible that its tapering off the Pred itself that's making her have these symptoms. Maybe she needs to be on a higher dose for a little longer or something else entirely. I'd still contact the GI.

Thanks Crabby. she sees her GI next tues. i think it is predn weaning symptoms.
wow remission for 13 yrs thats awesome. do you still take Humira? or did that just put you in remission?

My resection put me in remission 13 years ago. :) I was taking 6MP, Asacol, Prednisone and Entocort before the resection but the damage was too far gone and had to be removed. After that I took 6MP and Asacol then a few years ago taken off Asacol and stayed on 6MP until a couple months ago I was taken off it and put on Humira instead since I seemed to be moving from remission to clinical remission. I prefer remission remission. :p So far so good on the Humira. :)

Im not an expert on this... but weaning off Pred definately can make you sick... for me... the intensity of the sickness depends upon how quickly you taper off.... My very first taper was too fast... and I felt like I had a severe case of the flu.
