I was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis in 2007. About a week ago I found out I have crohn's. Getting scoped from both ends on Tuesday. I have always had a hard time gaining weight but found out I have gained about 20 pounds. Is weight gain a symptom of crohn? I am not on any medications for crohn's yet

There are some who gain weight with crohn's. I do believe it is far more common for us to lose weight though. I lost 40 pounds at the start of mine in a very short time, and then it took literally decades to get it back. Having said that though I have since gotten back to my high school weight and it has gone on healthily. I am on remicade and imuran for my crohn's.

Were you misdiagnosed at first? I have never heard of anyone with both. I have always lost weight every time I have had a flare.

Were you on any steroids when you were diagnosed with ulcerative colitis? They can cause you to gain weight.

I have found that sometimes when I'm cramping in this one spot it helps to eat. I have also found that there is a point in between an attack and feeling ok that i just crave everything for a week and nothing helps; during this time the more i poop the better I feel.
