Hey guys, I was diagnosed with crohn's disease almost 3years ago. If anything I have gained weight in those years. I thought the deal was you lose weight with crohn's so I'm wondering if anyone else is having trouble with losing weight. I would like to lose around 10kgs, how can I use crohn's to my advantage here? I figured eating fewer calories would do it considering a person with ibs should consume more calories than the average person, but this hasn't worked for me. I can't really exercise because i get extremely tired and feel terrible if i go for a run or anything.Anyone else the same or has advice for me?
Thanks :)

Given how crohn's normally works, I would focus on maintaining your weight rather than look at reduction until your crohn's is settled. If you are already feeling fatigued, you have to be careful about dropping your caloric intake. Keep a good diet in healthy proportions, and if you do honestly feel like you need to lose weight, I would highly recommend you do this under medical supervision so that you are able to separate healthy weight loss from possible active disease.

What parts of your digestive system are affected by your Crohn's? I am overweight, and according to my doctor, I most likely don't have the weight loss because my inflammation is all in my colon. Since my small intestine is healthy currently, I am still absorbing all the nutrients I need. I feel very lucky for that but the weight gain from medicine I'm on can get discouraging. Especially when you are to tired to exercise.

Maybe we need to start smaller on exercise. Instead of running, go for a short walk. I have a balance ball video I am going to try, so I'll be home if the exercise wears me out or triggers a bathroom attack. Exercising with doctor approval is best. And maybe a little exercise will get us feeling a little less tired so we can slowly work up to more.

Good luck. Talk to your doctor about exercise and let me know what you hear.
