Weird reaction to Sumatriptan?

This isn't really IBD related so I'm putting it in here. Although I do believe my migraines and my probable IBD are related, as they both started at the same time, this is about my migraines.

I get migraines every few months or so. The last time I saw my GP, I mentioned the migraines to him, and he prescribed Sumatriptan, which is the generic of Imitrex. Yesterday evening I felt a migraine aura come on (I always get auras beforehand), so I decided to try taking a Sumatriptan. My migraines are never totally debilitating, they're annoying and sucky but they're not downright horrible and usually don't last more than a couple hours. So I didn't really need to take a Sumatriptan, but wanted to see how well it worked.

The migraine itself sort of petered out after the aura, which was great! I didn't get sensitivity to light or sound like I usually do, and my vision was only slightly messed up for a short time by the aura. I thought Sumatriptan was a huge success and even posted so on Facebook. Apparently I spoke too soon though!

I went to bed feeling fine and slept like a rock. When I woke up, I had awful pain in the left side of my head. It felt like a bad migraine - but, here's the weird thing. My migraines are always and only ever in the right side of my head. I only get the auras on the right, and I only get the pain on the right, the left side of my head is never involved. Even when I have regular headaches, it's either right-sided or whole head - never, EVER is it just left-sided. This headache that I woke up today with was left-sided, so that was highly unusual for me! My sinuses were going a bit nuts too, I was horking up mucus and could tell that mucus was running down my throat into my stomach, which of course caused some yucky nausea. This all started at 6 AM when I woke up - it's now 1 PM and the headache is finally mostly gone and the sinus & nausea symptoms are abating, thankfully, but I felt pretty terrible for most of the day so far.

I guess I'm wondering, did Sumatriptan cure my right-side migraine but cause some sort of delayed-reaction (rebound?) migraine on the left side? Like I said, I hadn't taken this medicine before, and will be really reluctant to take it again, although I am a bit curious if the same thing would happen again. I emailed my GP to get his thoughts but haven't heard back yet so I thought I'd inquire here as I know there's quite a few other migraine sufferers on here. Anybody else have a similar side effect from Sumatriptan? I googled all the potential side effects but didn't see anything about rebound migraine or new migraine on the other side of the head - sinus issues and nausea were in there though. Anyway, I'm rambling - anybody have any input or had a similar experience?
