I kind of get that you can flare up for months. I get several months of complete rubbish, few months when i'm thinking yay i'm better, and the hospital stupidly discharged me because they couldn't figure out what was wrong.. then back to even worse flare up.

Can you get a flare up in a flare up?

For example, i've been ill for months, then 4 days ago I had a big flare up type thing where I was in agony for hours and almost went to hospital.
Can you say I had a flare up in a flare up?

So confusing! :shifty:

I guess you could say that, or your flare up just got worse, maybe?

A flare up is when you have active disease going on in there, i.e. inflammation, ulcers things like that.

Yes you can have flares where, for whatever reason, you suddenly got worse. The intense pain would make me wonder if you are having an obstruction. When I have had the double over in pain go to the ER think I am going to die incidents are when my bowel is obstructed. I have not had any of those incidents since my bowel surgery in 2010. (Thank GOD!).

The flares I have now take me from normal digestion to having the "D" and some abdominal pain. So yes, in my book there is a flare, and then there is a bowel obstruction which is a whole other thing.
