I'm newly diagnosed and trying to start a food diary, but am not sure what is truly upsetting my stomach. Last night for the first time since diagnosis I had chipotle, was fine and felt fine (I get a vegetarian bowl no beans or spicy stuff). Had a BM this morning like usual. Then for lunch I had mac n cheese and salad with chicken to see how that went, and it went fine as well except about 1-2 hrs after lunch I had a diarrhea BM. Not sure if it was lunch or chipotle last night that caused this, and wanted peoples input on this and what caused the upset so I dont eat it again!

What you ate last night will show up in the mornings. BM. So see what you eat today and you will see tomorrow! It think takes 12hrs? To digest Like salads comes out green lettice ,Corn comes out as it went in! Does not break down. Cheese will bind you. I ck my BM size if they are form good. To loose, all over the place. To much fiber. To much info! Haha I hope I helped:smile:Maria

Thanks! It's not TMI lol, I was just curious because after I ate that salad for lunch a few hours later I had a BM so I wasn't sure if that caused me to have to go or what I ate the night before!

I would be more suspicious of the lactose in the mac and cheese, to be honest! But that's because my Crohn's has made me lactose intolerant since diagnosis. If it was lactose intolerance, it might explain the short amount of time between your meal and the upset BM, too.

Is there a certain amount of dairy though? Because I can have a glass of milk, cereal, oatmeal, protein shakes etc. and it doesn't seem to be bad. Not sure if the mac n cheese was more with dairy than a glass of milk.

When I'm flaring I will see breakfast or lunch come out that same night. I also can't handle dairy well at all anymore.

No, milk would definitely set you off more than cheese would, hmm. So I guess it is something else.

I am so happy that this forum is in place. I have diarrhea all the time. I go anywhere from 8-15 times a day. Is this normal? No matter what I eat I am always in the bathroom. Does this constitute a flare up. My Gi doc isn't informative so I don't know what is normal and what isn't. Help!

read a book called Breaking the Vicious Cycle, it will tell you about the Specific Carbohydrate Diet. It is the dissachariddes like lactose and sucrose which greatly contribute to symptoms of diarhea. I have controlled my diarhea for 5 years with these ideas of reducing these sugars, no meds at all until recently. Stay away from milk and most processed foods add sucrose/table sugar.

other carbohydrates from corn, potatoes, rice may not be well digested either, i find one brand of wheat gold medal whole wheat flour i can tolerate but other brands i cant. and i eat some oats and beans. its difficult at times to make my food basically from scratch but it helps immensely.

That sounds like a flare to me. You should book an appointment with your GI and tell them if they don't already know.

Hi ocean. My question is if it was a flare then wouldn't it be more than diarrhea? wouldn't I be in pain or feeling some type of way other than just going to the bathroom all the time?

I would get diarrhea but passing the actual BM wouldn't hurt me at all. I would get cramps that caused urgency for me to pass a BM, though. It's also known as tenesmus.
