What is remission

Remission from crohn's is that just like remission for any other disease? Does it mean that you have no symptoms and your crohns is sleeping or dormant? An extra question for those of you who have had crohns for a while, have you all experienced a remission or do not all patients with crohns go into remission? And if so what was your longest remission?

Remission is when you don't have any symptoms of crohn's disease. It can be referred to as sleeping during this time. I've only been diagnosed for two years, though I think I've had issues my whole life (Eighteen years), I've experienced one remission from the time I was diagnosed and it was about nine months before symptoms came creeping back up on me. But that was because I was loaded on antibiotics and I had surgery.

I was diagnosed in Dec. 09 and am currently in remission. My doctor was very aggressive with the drugs right away. I have no current symptoms, but some foods still don't digest and I had a little blood a week or so ago. My doc is going to keep monitoring me to help me stay in remission as long as possible.

I don't believe that remission means no symptoms at all. My doctors never said that that was the case and if that is true, then I've never been in remission. However, I have been in remission for 11 years now since my surgery. I have symptoms off and on but not a full on flare. I believe not having a flare is what qualifies as being in remission.

"Remission" for one person, may be very different than anothers. Crohn's is so fickle; it attacks each of us differently.

I consider myself in remission when I have only mild symptoms. (i.e. joint pain, occassional D, off of Prednisone or Entocort, being able to eat food and keep on weight). Sometimes, I get lucky and don't have any symptoms for weeks at a time too
