I am feeling incredibly frustrated today. I’ve written here a few times about abdominal pain. The majority of my pain is just barely to the right and bottom of my belly button. It is a sharp, stinging pain and when it gets bad the pain shoots down my leg. It is constant. I had a colonoscopy last August and an MRI in October and this past May. The MRI didn’t show anything except some very mild inflammation in my TI. I had an ultrasound in June and they found a small umbilical hernia. I was worried about surgery, as I had never had one before, but I was excited to finally get relief. I had my hernia repaired on July 18. Everything went well.
My pain has not gone away. It literally feels the same as it did before surgery. I asked the nurse last week and she said that it was because I am still swollen from the surgery. However, I had my post op with the surgeon yesterday and he said the only pain/soreness I should have is from my incision healing. The ultrasound showed that my hernia was just above the navel, so he did his incision in a vertical line above and through my navel. He said “Maybe I should have done the traditional incision below the navel.” Yeah, that’s where my pain is! He said the hernia was so small, and there was only fatty tissue coming out, the he actually had to make a hole to repair the hole. I am scheduled for another colonoscopy on 8/12 and he said if I still have the pain 2 weeks from then he wants another ultrasound to see if he missed something. Seriously?! I put myself through surgery, took the time off, and paid money and now you want to double check I didn’t have an actual, larger hernia where my pain is?
Does anyone have any ideas of what could be going on? I’ve never had the traditional bulge of a hernia, so if I have another one it is small. I’ve been given Prilosec, an MRI, sent to physical therapy, and now gone through surgery trying to figure out what this pain is and how to fix it. Can terminal ileum pain be felt there? I feel like I am going crazy. I’ve dealt with this literally every day since last October and I am just ready for it to end. The only meds I’m on is 250mg of Azathioprine.
If you read all of this, thanks! And thanks for any suggestions you can give me.
