What is your fav conspiracy theory?

Help Support Crohn's Disease Forum:

yeah my fav one is the moon landing...obvious but oh so true...i mean why have they not been back on the moon? if it was so easy 40 odd years ago then how comes its not been repeated? hmm?

and yeah, i do feel that there is a HUGE amount of time spent with the prevention of cures to certain diseases so drug companies can get mucho money....there is no profit in curing the world...

there i am done....

aliens, assasanations, disappearances, there are just so many to choose from! bloody government....

The 9/11 conspiracy theories are very interesting. There's a whole youtube series on some of the stuff that has been researched with it. I think its like 1-2 hours long, but its all really cool stuff. Like the information retrieved from the cell phone of people on the planes. And how the black boxes from the planes mysteriously weren't recovered. Really cool stuff.

what scares me is that when you watch all the conspriracy theory stuff on the internet that some government agency somewhere is documenting what you are watching and how you are watching it....like whenver someone anywhere in the world types terrorist or terrorism in a thread or an email, that the FBI are on your ass watching your every move.....scary....

ooooooh big brother is watching yooooooooooou!

I like the magic bullet. I'm not a ballistics expert (yet) but I know my stuff pretty well; I've yet to find or build a magic bullet (not from lack of trying mind you.)

There are "9/11 was an inside job" stickers are all over Montreal. I'm guessing it's a widespread phenomena judging by the webcomic I ran across about it. People are strange.

Anything to do with aliens...I'm hoping to be abducted any day now....

I've studied the moon landing issue extensively out of personal intrigue (HUGE astronomy nut), and the evidence (both testimony and physics-based) leans too much towards the fact that we DID go there with Apollo 11, although it's an interesting argument the other side makes. The problem is, physicists refuted and debunked each and every one of their points that I've read, as have real accounts of parties involved.

As for landing and subsequent returns, you can find that we have been back with more Apollo missions, Wiki has this info too (I used it to double check things for this post as well, and there's a good amount of info here): http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moon_landing

After Aldrin, Collins and Armstrong (Apollo 11), Apollo 12 landed there later that year ('69) with a crew of 3, then there were a total of 4 MORE times (6 total) we went back by the end of 1972. So, Apollo 11, 12, 14, 15, 16 and 17 were all manned trips. I think that qualifies for "going back." :D

I'm not sure why there is a conspiracy against these events, but I read a theory that (theory about existence of a conspiracy theory) it's due to the disgruntled former NASA folks and/or enemies of the programs, etc...who wanted it to fail or feel robbed of fame or recognition, etc...Makes sense as far as motive. I really don't know...

My fiancee, for some reason, still subscribes to the theory we did NOT land there and says we haven't been back (I of course remark that we've been there like 6 times at least, when Wiki has it at 6, so I can now update my response to remove the "like" part. :) )

Here's their excerpt on the "hoax"--

Some conspiracy theorists have insisted that the Apollo Moon landings were a hoax. These accusations flourish in part because predictions by enthusiasts that Moon landings would become commonplace have not yet come to pass. Some claims can be empirically discredited by three retroreflector arrays left on the Moon by Apollo 11,[21] 14 and 15. With new technology, it is possible for anyone on Earth with an appropriate laser and telescope system to bounce laser beams off these devices, verifying deployment of the Lunar Laser Ranging Experiment at historically documented Apollo Moon landing sites. This evidence indicates the deployment of equipment which was constructed on Earth and successfully transported to the surface of the Moon. In addition, NASA's Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter, in August 2009, began to send back high resolution photos showing the Apollo landing sites.

So, just 7 months ago, we received more photos (which I imagine will be relegated to "CGI" or "good drawings" ) in hi-res to prove it, and you can utilize the laser-enabled telescopes mentioned to look on at our mark at each site too if you want to see the retroflectors (unless that's where the claim of alien presence on our moon will come in).

BUT, the lamest conspiracy theory? Those cult wingnuts that still claim the Earth is flat. Yes, there really is a group of whackos out there swearing by that fiction. Look it up, it's frightening.

I hope you don't think Global Warming is a fabrication, Merry. :eek2:

(at this time, I want to recommend all to watch Inconvenient Truth, scariest movie I've ever seen, just set aside political mindsets for it, and the overwhelming science will floor and horrify you)

Global warming actually causes extremes, like colder winters (and warmer summers) or higher water levels or harsher storms. Our winter over here has actually been really average for our area, lots of snow, average winter temps...all that means is it sucks like most winters except for the Holiday time.

When Miami and Indonesia are swimming pools and we have to wear gas masks to get the mail, people will believe.

Edit: Hey Sharon, I tried to look up something for your neck of the woods to explain the UK changes, and this was the best one (I found some for Canada and some for the US, but wanted one about your area)...This explains it a bit :)

What about the people who say the Holocaust never happened... really?

Touche.

That one's even worse.

To deny such a travesty...unconscionable.

It's not worse, but it's sickening to think about: what about those who claim the British knew about Pearl Harbor's pending attack and let it happen to spur the involvement of the US in WWII? I can't fathom something like that, but I've read that in places, that they supposedly intercepted intel that warned them of it, and allowed it because they were desperate for our aid and support. I'd like to think our British friends find that as appalling as I do to consider...

Erazer did you actually ask if I'm Inuit? LMAO thats one of the smallest aboriginal tribes and there are no Inuit within probably 500 miles of where I live, Although I did build an Igloo here once when I was 7. But honestly no. Just a Canadian and no aborignal descent of anykind. All European actually.

Also Merry you may have had the coldest winter in years but you just stole it from us. We had the warmest in years. The warmest winter olympics ever and in the suburb I live in of Vancouver we never hit the freezing mark at anytime during the day in Feburary....its raining at our ski resorts.

Well I have to go take my pet beaver over to Erazer's place now hahaha.

Considering that opium production in Afghanistan has increased steadily since Nato invaded, and considering Russia has become the world's top heroin abusing country (I read one heartbreaking story about an eight year old Russian boy addicted to heroin), is there an intentional effort by Nato to flood Russia with cheap heroin in an (pretty evil, you have to admit) attempt to destabilize her?

I'd hate to think anything like that could be true, because if it is, Nato has sunk
pretty low. It would certainly provide a good cashflow for covert agencies.

"Russia says it has become the world's biggest consumer of heroin.

Mr Ivanov, a former KGB officer and senior Kremlin official, said the flood of the drug from Afghanistan posed a threat to Russia's national security.

In recent years Russia has not just become massively hooked on Afghan opiates, it has also become the world's absolute leader in the opiate trade and the number one heroin consumer.

Drug trafficking has become a key negative factor for demography and a blow to our nation's gene pool... [and] a challenge to Russia's civilisation.

Afghanistan is estimated to produce 93% of the world's heroin.

While not directly blaming the US-led coalition in Afghanistan for the worsening problem, Mr Ivanov said that Afghan farmers had used the tense military and political situation to plant opium poppies."
