Over the last 18 months, I've been diagnosed with Colitis, then Crohns and gallstones. Originally I was gravely ill, like many other stories around here, took a while to get diagnosed, but since I have vastly improved with medication and gained weight. I've been living on a limited low fibre diet ever since. I had my gallbladder removed last April, since then I've been unable to form any kind of stool. Everyone is different I hear for diet, but for me it seems like any kind of fibre I eat goes through me whole. Is there such thing as an on-line Crohn's dietician?

Hi Cheryl and :welcome: I would advise that you look at our diet, fitness and supplements forurm as this will give lots of info on this sort of thing. Otherwise I personally have not really looked for an online dietician so not sure what is out there. I have always done the low fat/low fibre diet that I was told to follow when I was first diagnosed, I also keep away from the usual culprits of caffiene and too much dairy.

I refuse to follow any specific diet. I know I am pig headed, however a few little things I do keep away from like fiber only white bread for me, and nothing spicy. All raw veggies I use to keep away but with Remi I can eat some. When I get a flare I stay on Chocolate ensure. Works wonders.

My work insurance allows me a few visits a year to a dietician. If you have insurance look it up you might have some converage.

Welcome! I have been told many times that there is no specific diet designed for Crohn's as we are all different. I was pig headed too and up until about three years ago I ate what I wanted even though I knew certain things would be painful and bothersome. About three years ago I decided I couldn't continue that way and started eliminating those things that caused me problems.

There are some articles out there they say food items that contain polysorbate-80 tend to cause flares in people with Crohn's, you can google Polysorbate-80 and Crohn's disease. I have eliminated these foods from my diet, except ice cream because I love it so much. Polysorbate-80 really should not be ingested by anyone, the only reason to add it to food is to give the food he ability to firm up and take some type of form. I am sure natural varieties of these food items are perfectly fine.

Good luck!

Cheryl,

My friend is a dietitian. I'll ask her if she has any ideas on foods. Welcome. I'm new here and just learning my way around.
