My doctor tells me to eat a low residue diet. He gives me a list of what I should avoid and whole fruits and whole vegetables are on the list. What does that mean? No fruits and veggies at all? Raw? In cans? And no grain, wheat or fiber. And on top of it I have a hiatal hernia so there's even a longer list of foods that I can't eat. I'm BEYOND frustrated! But then again everything I eat these days just exits south in a violent manner so....haha Helps to laugh at my old body sometimes. So can anyone help me with the vegetables thing cuz I LOVE me some veggies!!

Vegetables: You may eat these vegetables raw:

•Lettuce
•Cucumbers
•Onions
•Zucchini

You can eat these vegetables if they are well-cooked or canned (without seeds). You can also drink juices made from them if they do not contain seeds or pulp:

•Yellow squash (without seeds)
•Spinach
•Pumpkin
•Eggplant
•Potatoes, without skin
•Green beans
•Wax beans
•Asparagus
•Beets
•Carrots

Joan has summed it up quite well......basically what you are looking for is foods that are digested as much as possible, to avoid the 'bulk' that some foods leave.....so hopefully you will go less on a low-residue diet, and absorb more of the nutrients.....

Hi Stephy Chelle,

Here are the results of a forum search for low residue diet. You can read there about other people's experience with the diet and foods they found they could tolerate (and those that they did not).

When I was on a low residue diet, I ate most of my vegetables mashed. I avoided things with seeds in them and remember liking mashed carrots.
