When does nausea from 6mp stop?

So i've just hit the 2 week mark of being on 6mp (mercaptopureen?) and what do you know the nausea has begun. Vomited once today. Has anyone else had this? Please tell me it stops.

I was on 6MP, Mercaptopurine, but the vomiting was so spectacular we got the out-of-hours doctor out to give me an injection of anti-emetic! I didn't try it again after that ;-)

You need to get advice from your consultant/IBD nurse...


(edited to add, I was on Azathioprine, which is the pro-drug for 6MP, and got nausea so they had me try the 6MP in case it was the other metabolite I was allergic to. I only had one tablet, the throwing up commenced in 5hours!. Some people here have stuck with Aza/6MP and got through the nausea and sickness. They must be very strong is all I can say!)

I took 6-MP for two years. I had nausea the entire time. It was not bad enough that I threw up which at times was worse. My doctor gave me anti-nausea medication and said as long as I was not throwing up I should tough it out. So I did but it was no picnic.

There are many people that have this side effect but it passes after a time.

EJ has been on 6mp since about Jan this year. It has never had any ill effects on him.

I don't remember how long I was on 6mp but I developed liver problems at about 12 weeks so watch your labs. I didn't have any nausea so I can't help you there. :stinks:

I was on 6mp for many years, close to 10 really and the only problem I ever noticed with it was that my hands would shake and I'd feel a little shaky if I missed a dose. I was on 65mg/day. Other than that, no nausea. Hopefully your side effects will go away soon.

I've been on 6MP for 3 years now.
I've had no side effects and have been ok (still get flare ups and need a short dose of pred)

I recall when I first took it, feeling sick, tired and doing a crazy bloody stool, but other then that, all has been great

I too cannot use 6Mp or Imuran, one week of it and goes straight to my liver, just isnt my drug!
