So, I stopped drinking for the most part since I got crohns. But I still will drink (I'm taking about liquor, not beer for now) every once in a long while for special occasions.

My question is. Is there a liquor that is probably "better" or easier on your stomach vs some of the other liquors?

Is there a general consensus on like scotch vs vodka vs rum vs wheat base alcohols vs potato alcohols etc etc.

What do you think is less damaging on your stomach when it comes to hard liquors?

Sorry if it is not what you want to hear, but I find the least damaging booze is none.

Yeah I'm not looking for the best overall situation. I'm looking for which alcohol is easier on your stomach vs others.

I don't notice any difference although I can't drink ciders as it gives me acid reflux but other than that I can drink anything I like without any issues.
I did have problems with red drinks such as red wine and port initially (20 years ago!) but that seems to have gone away as well. I certainly don't notice any difference in grain based vs other alcohol but then I'm not gluten sensitive.

I find the low/no sugar content best, and I avoid beer/lager/ales completely. White rum and vodka seem to be the least offensive for me. Distilled alcohol seems best. Good luck, and happy drinking :)

I drink wine, white and red, and gin and tonic, on a regular basis. None of these has any affect on my bowels. I think it's like food...if it gives you a problem then don't do it, if it doesn't then do it, within realistic guidelines.

I agree with the rum and avoiding super sugary drinks. Yeasts in some beers and the sugars seem to severely alter bowel bacteria and can lead to uncomfortable days. I have taken good advantage of all-inclusive resorts without ill effect, at least with regards to crohn's disease. Strangely enough for me, alcohol actually seems to slightly improve my water retention which is an issue for me.

I have read that clearer alcohols tend to be tolerated better...I used to hate gin and tonic but have learnt to love it now and I find it much easier on the stomach than any other drink

I seem to have success with Guinness. Not a binge mind you, but I can have a few pints in an evening without major issues. Everyone seems to be different mind you.

Hi, i used to like a glass or 2 of red vino and any liquor is a no no noooooo for my body.. It might be fine drinking it but as soon it enters my small bowels .... No thank you.
Currently i am complete of any alcohol.. 1st due to the medications and painkillers i am on secondly i cant justify putting my body through all thos chemical on a daily base just to stay in remission and then poisoning it with alcohol. Sorry itm8ght not be what you were wanting to hear but my only advise is to be kind to your body and try to support it as much as possible.

I mostly drink Guinness. Red wine sometimes, and occasionally whisky (or sometimes whiskey). Never have any problems as a result, though I also make sure I drink plenty of water before going to bed as dehydration is not good for your bowels and alcohol can obviously cause that.

I've found when I've been constipated beer does help.

:drink:

I havent drunk in ages due to being on tramadol daily but I used to find that drinking things like cocktails and smirnoff, wkd etc was hell! But neat vodka, gin etc was a lot better. Same as everyone that no alcohol will be tolerated well but I found the less of evils was neat for me.

Oh yes, I forgot about cocktails. Fortunately margaritas don't have any effect either, well, not on my bowels...🙃

my gastro told me if I have to drink then drink rum or vodka but not scotch, whiskey etc. its easier on the stomach and has no gluten I believe.

I used to love margaritas, but found that the drink caused stronger cramps. I don't think that's the tequila so much as the other ingredients, but now I drink vodka and have no issues with it.

When I do have drink I prefer Scotch. Beer does not agree with me for the gas, and limit wine due to the acidity. Depending on how my Crohn's is will allow me to drink. Sometimes a drink will help reduce the symptoms of Crohn's, perhaps its because of the relaxing effects of alcohol. Other times I cannot drink, and the taste of it turns me off which is like my body's first line of defense telling me its no good.

Ciders can give me acid reflux and bad gas at times (though eating apples also gives me issues), liquor seems to be fine in moderation (too much and it feels almost acidic in my guts), beer is ok most of the time (sometimes can give me bad gas and cramping). It all just depends on my symptoms at the time. If I'm unsure I would opt for a simple cocktail or beer and see how you feel after.

I think margarita mix is the devil. I made paleo-ish margaritas one night and my husband tried to outdo me...and failed. But overall, I do fine with beer and wine. My GI said if I've found what I can tolerate, that's fine. I tend to get constipated. If I am on a trip or in a situation where I'd drink two nights in a row, I have to take it kind of easy and over-hydrate.

Rum, vodka and wine never caused me any trouble (of course in moderate quantities, getting really drunk is a shortcut to pain and regret).

Beer and cider are ok-ish on occasion but I'm better avoiding it.

When I'm in a real bad shape nothing is goo, but I'm not in a mood for a drink anyway.
