My dog has a rash. The vet says it's dermatitis and prescribed a short run of pred to get the inflammation under control. What is my dog going to be like? He's a terrier and is nutty enough already thank you!

Good luck, I'm sure he'll be fine! My dog was on a course of pred for a really bad ear infection - granted, she is a lot bigger than a JR, but the entire treatment was maybe 7-10 days, with doses every day for the first few days, then every second day. How much pred is the little guy going to be taking?
5mg daily for a week, then 5mg every other day for 3 weeks. He weighs around 9 kilos, so relatively speaking it's about the same dose as I had. I'm just wondering whether he needs extra calcium? Duh, fancy forgetting to ask that!
Tee hee, he's got the munchies! Took him for his walk, and he lunged around trying to eat everything in sight (leaves, bits of paper, sweet wrappers, mud etc).

Still got munchies! The extra energy isn't too bad, he used to be quite destructive and I was worried he'd return to his old ways, but so far so good. Though it probably helps that on Thursday we were on the park and one of his doggy buddies came over to play, and yesterday he met a new friend, so spent ages chasing and boxing each other. With the result that yesterday evening he fell asleep while we were watching a film (normally he likes to watch with us). So I don't think he's suffering with insomnia! And no moon face either. And his rash is showing improvements already (gone from red and angry to pink and sore).

Ha ha, I'm trying to picture a dog with moon face but it's still cute in my mind! Glad to hear his rash is healing and that he's been having fun at the park. I love taking my dog to the park and letting her run around with her pals, she isn't a super high-energy dog so when we get home she always naps at our feet for the rest of the day.
On that subject, a somewhat related question for you - do you find that bigger dogs at the park tend to pick on your dog? I have a fairly small dog too, mine's a corgi, and sometimes bigger dogs at the park seem to think that it's just fine to play too rough and beat up on her a little bit! Sometimes I have to separate them because it gets too rough. It just seems so mean, when 100+ pound labradors feel the need to knock over my little pooch. And the owners of the bigger dogs do nothing sometimes, and have the attitude of, "Oh, they're just having fun, let them play" when clearly my dog is in a bit of distress and is not having fun. It makes me mad!

No moonface yet, though maybe a bit of weight gone on round his ribcage.
As for your question about bigger dogs, Max thinks he *is* the biggest dog in the park. He loves rough and tumble play. He will happily goad a rottweiler into chasing him. If another dog tries to beat him up, Max will stand on his hind legs and box with his front paws. He will only complain if they accidentally sit on him (and once they get up, he will be fine again). If all else fails, he can outrun most dogs.
Having said that, sometimes it's the smaller dogs that go for Max. Probably because they feel threatened. But that's worse in a way, because smaller dogs tend to go straight in for the bite, whereas big dogs knock their prey about a bit. Luckily he hasn't actually been bitten, but there are a couple of little dogs that I have to keep Max away from for his own safety!

Ah, I see. My dog Lily is so long and short (very short legs) that she cannot run very fast, she's probably one of the slowest dogs in the park. Plus the fact that there's a lot of snow on the ground and she has to bunny-hop over the drifts whereas dogs with longer legs can just run right over them, so she can't run away from the bigger dogs that are beating up on her. Plus Lily doesn't think she's the biggest dog in the park like how you described Max as being, she has a fairly meek personality and just wants to sniff other dogs and not really play (she's more interested in meeting other humans, truth be told, because she seems to know that they're more likely to have treats for her!). She rarely barks either, she's pretty calm. Other dogs seem to get frustrated that they can't rile her up and that's when the trouble starts.

Max had to do the bunny hop thing with the snow. He boings on all four legs together, more like a hare actually. And I did lose him once, he was at the edge of a snowdrift and his black and white markings blended in perfectly. But our snow melted a long time ago.
He has taken the for one whole week now, so miss tomorrow. The redness and lumpiness has gone from his rash, though his skin looks kind of like a fresh plucked chicken still, and he has some brown discolouration on his legs. I am weaning him onto a fish based hypoallergenic diet, as recommended by the vet, though I have a feeling he's going to turn out intolerant to dairy. As I remembered earlier that his symptoms started when he had kennel cough. We had just started going to flyball sessions when he got the cough. At flyball I feed him cheese to keep him extra motivated. Funny how things click into place! Anyway, I am eliminating all allergens and will reintroduce his usual food once all symptoms have gone, and see what happens then!

Glad Max is tapering down. Doggie munchies! I have this picture in my mind of a JR sitting on the couch eating potato chips and drinking a beer while watching the game on TV.
