To me it sounds like your immune system is busy doing something else for a while...and leaves you alone. It sounds like the worms they use only live for a couple weeks...then what do you do?? Eat worms twice a month?? Like Caitliyn said..icky!! But maybe they will come up with something similar soon...it's nice to see someone is trying!

It's actually a very fascinating form of treatment and I wish people would try to get over the "icky factor" of it :) Clinical studies have been conducted with very good results. I also hope that drug companies pay attention and can work to replicate the compounds these worms secrete that reduces the inflammatory response of the intestines so one day we might not have to infect people with parasites. I was just reading the following which was quite fantastic:

I have been on a parents of IBD board for years and I remember when I first came on a few years ago, someone on there were getting the worms from Germany. They had good luck with them. I haven't heard about them for a long time, interesting that suddenly it is all over the news.

It does seem to come and go. I agree that the most valuable thing would be to harness what the worms provide without having to ingest the worms. There's got to be better answers out there.....

I all could think was - I can't eat many of the foods I actually do like and now I am supposed to eat something this gross as a cure!! Sure good luck with that - and how come chocolate can't be the cure!!!

This is just as interesting as it is strange. Funny to see this post, cause my 12 year old son's teacher (who knows about all we have been going through with him) sent him home with an article from the Tampa Tribune (just a week or so ago) about this trial starting this month OCT. in Orlando. He is READY TO TRY ANYTHING at this point to feel better. Including his first Remicade infusion tomorrow! AGH! If you are willing to do that.. what's a few worm eggs gonna hurt? :) I will be watching for the resluts of this trial for this treatment. I am hating we are at this Remicade turn, but just so ready for him to get better.
