worried.. new meds.. one being ciprofloxacin

Hey everyone...

I went to the doc today. :( ended up coming out with even more meds.
My home nurse came in to check my vitals, and left earlier today, stating she'd be back at the end of the week to repeat a vitals check. But I'm scared, and i dont want to be a pest to them. I'm thinking it may just be an irrational fear here.

So... I'm suposed to be starting Ciprofloxacin, and I read all of the pamplet that comes with it, and it specificly states not to take if i'm currently taking prednisone. (which i am..).. and about 75% of that page states either something i'm on (not to take with), or something I have (tendon/joint swelling, inflammation, (one cyst is in under my knee cap so i have massive issues there), or something I'm experiencing (such as rapid heart rate (tacha-something), stomach cramps/pain, bloody stool (was the last time I had a bm, but currently am on the plugged up side), and then the side effects of when to contact your doctor immediately with - about 60% of those i am already experiencing, so what's the best way to be sure that once i start taking this med, that it couldn't be caused by this med? and something about even if i finish it, it can still be affecting me months from now?

:shantel:

Perhaps it'd be better to just ask what is everyone experience with this med. I keep hearing it's horrible, but i don't find what makes it horrible (except for the obvious on the sheet of paper that comes with the med.)
Will it make my heart rate fast? (i'm already on pred and vyvanse which both speed up my heart. and i dont think i could handle my heart being faster than 160 area.)

Hi MysteryLocket:

I was on Cipro for about five months, and I didn't tolerate it well at all. Prior to starting on Cipro, I had severe abdominal pain, D, fevers, chills, rapid heart rate, joint pain and blood in the stool. When I started Cipro, some of these symptoms worsened, but I could tell it was different. The abdominal pain, for instance, was different. I always felt like I had not eaten anything all day and drank two pots of coffee...an almost gnawing sensation in my tummy that would make me run to the bathroom. My fevers got worse. My heartrate and joint pain did not worsen, however.

I kept with Cipro for about five months hoping that the drug would settle in and ease up on the side effects, but in the end, I couldn't handle it any longer. I asked my doctor to give me alternative antibiotics. About a day or two after discontinuing Cipro, the side effects were gone.

I do know that for many other people, Cipro and Flagyl work really well to ease their symptoms and they don't experience many side effects. And a good friend of mine takes it for chronic UTIs and she doesn't have any issues with the side effects.

What a coincidence. I was just prescribed cipro as well. So far I've noticed the dizziness and slight metallic taste and it's only been 2 days. It's not nearly as bad as flagyl though which I'm thankful for. How have your side effects been?

Thanks for letting me know and all the helpful posts ^_^

yeah, i'm doing..... Okayish on it.. Ended up in the hospital again because of it tho.. it's causing my joints to pop and hurt and swell. Also having heart palpitations and a heart rate that last documented was 179bpm. (it bounces around horribly). not too hungry either. but atleast my fever is gone.
I haven't ended up with a metalic taste... (had it from bactrim and flagyl. ) and i'm not nauseated (which i was HORRIBLY with flagyl), just more of an "eh.. my tummy says eat, while my mind and colon scream no" lol
it's messing with myalertness though. people say it's suposed to make me hyper (hence no caffiene) so... my heart acts as if it is, but i get unbareably tired, and crash after an hour of when I took it.

How did the cipro treatment go for you? I'm still taking it and dealing with a bit of achiness/weakness in my muscles. It definitely fixed my flare up though! Also, today, I hit the back of my heel against a chair and now it's uncomfortable to walk :( Now I'm paranoid I have a freaking tendon rupture or something! What made you go to the hospital exactly? Did you have these symptoms?
