I got woken up the early hours of yesterday morning with severe stomach pain and feeling like I really had to go to the toilet. I sat on the toilet for about an hour with no joy not even able to pass wind. The pain was so bad I felt dizzy and vomited. Eventually the diarrhoea made an appearance and after a while I felt a bit better. This morning I have been passing black stools which is a new one for me. I know black stools are often a sign of upper GI bleeding but I've had an endoscopy recently and they didn't find much. I'm still undiagnosed but an MRI scan showed inflammation in the terminal ileum. Has anyone experienced anything similar?

Hi G G . Sorry your suffering . Please get in touch with your doc and explain whats happening. Inflamtion in the terminal ileum sounds like it could be crohns. So try to get them to help you get an answer/diagnosis asap. Best wishes

I'm seeing my gastro consultant on the 15th March and I'm awaiting an appointment for a capsule endoscopy. My doctor suspects it could be Crohn's however he won't start me on any treatment unless the pill cam shows anything.

I had experienced black stools before and soften still do, it seems to happen when my iron levels are low and for a while they had put me on iron transfusions weekly then monthly until my levels were normal, but I believe it can be a sign of dehydration if that's the case drink more fluids and avoid fibre rich foods. In any case a doctor should be seen regardless.
