I have had issues with my disease for many years now... it used to respond to steroids, but now is no longer responding to steroids or humira. At this point I am looking at a bowel resection of the duodenum. Does anyone have experience with this? I don't know how successful it is for folks usually.I was hoping for lapro, but because of it being in the duodenum they want to do it as a open.I have never had any kind of surgery before and this does not seem like it will be simple. Any thoughts, opinions would be welcome. I just am not sure what to expect.

:welcome: to the forum. I have had a resection but in the Ileum, they Duodenum is up higher so I am not sure how the surgery goes. I am surprised they didnt mention Remicade before surgery but it could be scarring and therefore surgery is required.

When is your surgery? Open surgery takes longer to heal that is all I know because I have had open on my second resection. Sorry not much help but some one could advise you more. Keep us posted.

Hi akpatti and welcome to the forum.

I'm so sorry about the upcoming surgery. I haven't done surgery before either, so have no advice. Please... check out our surgery subforum. Someone there will be able to comfort and advise you. http://www.crohnsforum.com/forumdisplay.php?f=71

I hope you stick around and make yourself feel at home here.

Thank you. I've known there are support groups but have never used one before. It does help to read there are others out there.
My surgery is scheduled for in a few weeks, I have to be off the Humira for at least 3 weeks before they will do the surgery. I am still doing research to ensure that this is the right decision, but as I am unable to get off the steroids (every time I start dropping down the pain comes back) I don't think that there is much choice.
Steroids aren't making me any calmer about decisions either. Hate it. I will be okay with everything one minute and overwhelmed the next.
Just plugging along at this point trying to get some answers and better understand what is in store for me.
I have googled a ton, but a lot of the articles are old and not much at all about duodenum resections. Arg.
