What is your number 1 comfort food? For IBD sufferers that can take on a whole other meaning. I'm in a flare right now, so most days I'm lucky to eat one meal. When I'm having a flare like this, there are certain foods that I can graze on that not only make me feel more human, but I also LIKE a lot.

My number one comfort food is Gardettos snack mix. I discovered it was something I could always eat when I had my first flare in high school. It doesn't give me stomach aches, and the saltiness was always appetizing. Probably not the most nutritious thing, but it stayed down!

Anyone have a food like that they cling to in a flare?

Right now I am in a flare as well, and my comfort food seems to be a turkey and cheese sandwich on white bread. Chicken noodle soup, grilled cheese, tomato soup, and mashed potatoes also work well. I miss "real" food though!

Chicken and dumplings... not the quick kind. The kind that's been on the stove for days and the chicken is cooked to digestible ease...

My daughter LOVES roasted potatoes with garlic and rosemary. Which I think is weird because skins are on, and the rosemary is spikey. Doesn't seem to bother her.

When she's feeling really awful she loves potato chips. Salty.

When in a flare, my go to is juicing and chicken broth, or other puréed soup- like butternut squash. Once I start solids, salmon is easily tolerated.

A peanut butter sandwich :) Both homemade. Somehow it slows things down, although when I was having obstructions all the time I daren't even eat that.

Otherwise a boiled potato and salmon in any form and of course chicken and beef broth and pureed soups made with that broth, parsnip in particular is good.

The foods I like vary a lot. I started a thread on cravings about this - so many things I really like for a while, then can't stand, and I've no idea why. The main ones I like consistently though, are ice cream, yogurts and other dairy-type puddings. I usually like hot chocolate, that's comforting. Peanut butter is another. I usually quite like breakfast cereals, as long as they're low-fibre ones that aren't filling, like Special K. I always like Coke, though it's not a comfort food, I don't drink it when my stomach's bad.

Previous comfort foods have been boiled egg on toast, cheese on toast and scones, but I haven't fancied those for a long time. Following surgeries, I've had insane cravings for fruit pastilles and Werther's Original and various types of chocolate, where I'd eat packets every day for a while, but again I then stopped wanting them. Oh, and just plain milk to drink.

I like porridge, but don't you find it really filling? When you feel bad it just sits in your stomach, it's so stodgy. Or maybe I just eat portions that are too big. I used to like baby-food porridge, that's lighter.
