    Faecal calprotectin Test

Fecal calprotectin does not detect CD. It detects inflammation in the bowels (not necessarily the small bowel, in fact a few studies have shown it less effective with detecting inflammation in the small bowel but other studies have shown that it's effective in both large and small bowel). It's...

Not crohn's but a lot of this speaks to me

Have you looked into Bile Acid Malabsorption/bile salt malabsorption? It can occur after gall bladder surgery as well as with other GI issues such as ileal resection, SIBO etc You may want to discuss it with your GI to see if it's a possibility for you. There are meds for it. Some of them are...

Too much effort for a sub-par life

Pred never did much for my son. He's only taken it once right after dx while waiting for remicade to be approved. We also feared the big guns. But he was in such a state and his quality if life was so low that we were desperate for him to find some relief. Since starting remicade(literally...

    Starting Remicade + Imuran

My son was diagnosed at 15 with severe CD. He was put on remicade and later methotrexate(another immune modulator like imuran). He had no side effects from the combo therapy. In fact, due to the severity of his disease he remicade dose was eventually given at a higher dose than standard...

    Calprotectin Results advice please

In the past Labcorp, who my son used, had a below 50 Normal Reference Range. Quest whom I've used had a below 162.7 Normal Reference range, same units of measurement. It's really down to what their pool of patients ranged with issues and without as to what established the labs NRR. The last...

Could this be crohn's? Is there more testing I should try getting?

I wouldn't opt for the MRE first since you've already had a CT scan, they're similar. A pill cam would be a good option as it could look at the rest of the small intestine. Did you say you had been tested for SIBO? That's another option. Hope you find some answers soon.

Hope for Ensure Plus diet as a treatment to bring down inflammation

Scipio, polymeric formulas such as Ensure and Boost are often used in children when doing EEN. Studies have shown no difference among the efficacy of EEN with polymeric, semi-elemental or elemental. Studies show efficacy equal to pred in pediatric trials. Although opinions differ on the exact...

Hope for Ensure Plus diet as a treatment to bring down inflammation

If you have trouble drinking them you can always use a nasogastric tube. My son did this when he was doing EN. His was supplemental not exclusive (EEN). He used a prescribed formula (peptamen 1.5). He was given the option of using Ensure or Boost but had trouble with the texture so opted for the...

    Staying Positive! But feeling low...

Welcome to the forum. Sorry to hear of your struggles. Did you start at 40 mg of pred and weaned down from that? Has it helped at all with your symptoms? Often pred is the drug we love to hate because it quickly quells inflammation and symptoms but has all those nasty side effects. Generally...

    Neuropathy?

It partly depends on its underlying cause. Treatment ranges from antidepressants like amitriptyline, pain medications like oxycodone, to anti-seizure medications, and pain-relieving creams. But treating the underlying cause is also important to keep progression from occurring.

    My daughter's story

Welcome to the forum. So sorry to hear of your struggles. I don't have experience with LC as my son has CD. I'm assuming that LC is treated much the same as CD in that you have the same pyramid of meds: 5ASAs- pentasa Asacol etc Immune modulators: imuran, 6mp and methotrexate Biologics...

    Assumed to have antibodies

By the time he had to suspend remicade for surgery he was on high dose remicade, 15mg/kg every 6 weeks (he had been at 5 weeks) as well as methotrexate injections equal to 20 mg pill form. He had an ileocecectomy and when started back with remicade I think he restarted with loading doses but...

    Assumed to have antibodies

Ahhh yeah that could definitely be a possibility. My son developed antibodies when he had to suspend his infusions for surgery. Remicade didn't completely quell his active disease either. Well, actually, remicade plus mtx didn't get the job done. Hope you get some answers quickly!

    Assumed to have antibodies

In the six infusions that you've had have they adjusted the disease or shortened the schedule? Also between I fusions have your remicade levels ever been checked? If antibodies weren'the present I would get trough levels tested and consider adjusting schedule or dose and maybe adding...

    Uc not visible in colonoscopy

Some times the level of inflammation isn't visible to the naked eye but there is inflammation present just at the cellular level, hence picked up by the pathologist during biopsy. My son has CD, not UC. At diagnosis, his inflammation was severe and chronic and visible during scope. At various...

    Will Humira Go Generic?

My son has been through remicade and humira. He is now on stelara (in phase 3 trials at higher doses it's shown good results for CD). His other option was entyvio. There's still Cimzia but I doubt wed try it since he doesn't seem to fully respond to tnf biologics. There's several drugs in phase...

    Need your help

I wouldn't worry too much about the FC result. Some labs Normal Reference range is less than 50 ( in the US Labcorp use to have this as its NRR but now it's less than 150) others have even higher Normal Reference Range ( Quest is less than 162.7 or right around there. They're all using the same...

    Cimzia again?

Depends on why it failed. If it was because of antibodies then your body is still making those so you body would fight the med and make it less effective. Sometimes a med stops working even without antibodies. Going back to it still increases chances your body has developed antibodies. I don't...

Parents of Adult Children with IBD Support Group

I'm so sorry to hear of your son's struggles with this insidious disease. Refractory CD is so unforgiving. I have a niece (not blood related to my son who has CD) who has been refractory. She has endured numerous surgeries, steroid dependency and hip replacement due to this at age 29, several...

How high were your Remicade antibodies before switching the medicine? We need to make a decision soon.

My son had two reactions as well his levels were checked and the antibody level was through the roof 27000 or something like that. He had had to stop remicade for surgery. Starting back he had a reaction at the 2nd and 3rd infusions. He was switched to Humira. Remicade had been unable to fully...
