    EEN and Dental Health

The plan is to do 50% elemental, 50% SCD or CDED for 6 weeks and then 25% elemental and 75% special diet. And then the diet for a while. I'll get rescoped after the 50/50 portion is over.

    EEN and Dental Health

EEN (exclusive enteral/elemental nutrition) is the course of treatment I'm using right now for my Crohn's. I'll be finishing on Tuesday. It consists in drinking exclusively a very sugary meal replacement formula, and it's just gross on the teeth and mouth. So yes, I've been chewing ice and just...

    EEN and weakness

And that tip to eat ice with the shakes was good. I've been doing that with two or three shakes per day and it makes me feel more sated.

    EEN and weakness

Hey, thanks for asking. I'm feeling better now. I decided to increase my iron supplement from 25mg to 50mg/day and take it alongside a vit C supplement. I think it's helped. My doctor ordered blood tests last week, but I haven't gotten the results back yet. I've finished three weeks and still...

    EEN and weakness

You know, it could be anemia. I was low on iron to begin with and Orgain doesn't have much iron. My supplement probably isn't cutting it. Gonna check with my healthcare providers today.

    EEN and weakness

And oh, yes, I'm splitting them up over the day at our usual meal and snack times, but to get that 10th shake in, some days I've stayed up later than I usually do and read a book or a blog to take my mind off of getting one more shake down. I try to find a relaxing, quiet place away from the...

    EEN and weakness

Thanks for sharing. I had been wondering if Orgain was inadequate for EEN, but the nutritionist said I could go ahead and use it, so I figured I would try. She was primarily concerned about its lack of iron, therefore the supplement. Thankfully, I only have inflammation in my terminal illium...

    EEN and weakness

Hey everyone. I am 2 weeks into my 6 weeks of EEN, and I'm feeling pretty weak. Nutritionist suggested I drink 1625 to 1750 calories a day, but I have kept upping the amount because I lost a couple pounds in the first week. Right now I'm doing 2500 calories/day and I'm 5'2" (barely). I don't...

    EEN and Dental Health

Anyone have issues with dental health after doing a course of EEN? I'm wondering if I should rinse my mouth with saline solution after every "meal." I can feel this weird build-up on my teeth that's really unpleasant.

I will check it out, thanks!

    Starting EEN Tomorrow

Agreed. My husband was born behind the Iron Curtain and traditions of cooking real food as a community and sharing that food as a community still exist (though they are beginning to be threatened by food product interests). I love feeding my family real foods, but gosh, it wouldn't feel like...

    Starting EEN Tomorrow

I'm sorry you aren't doing well at the moment, but that's really amazing that you went so long doing so well. It's really encouraging to me, and I'd be glad to get that far.

    Starting EEN Tomorrow

Thanks for the clarification about eosinophilic disorders @my little penguin. I did look up the overlap with EOE specifically, and there is a little bit. So far, I don't think there's evidence that my son has Crohn's, but it's good to know that my gut (lol) instinct is correct that he is at risk...

    Starting EEN Tomorrow

Thanks for sharing your experience, @westernbuddy. Orgain is a premixed meal-replacement beverage sold here in the U.S. It's not specific to Crohn's, but the nutritionist I spoke to who specializes in GI disorders was familiar with it and supported my choice. Though I would consider Modulen if...

    Starting EEN Tomorrow

My plan with my GI and nutritionist is to do EEN and then switch to the SCD, no meds. They both seem to think that it's possible to enter remission w/o meds. I did say that I'm willing do do meds if I have to, but I'd like to push that off as long as I can. I realize that these dietary changes...

    Starting EEN Tomorrow

You know...I kept thinking it was too bizarrely coincidental that my son and I both have unusual GI diseases. I was wondering if there was a connection, but we have been doing this EOE thing for 7 years (my son is 9 now) and nobody mentioned it, even when I said my mother and one of my brothers...

    Starting EEN Tomorrow

Thanks for thinking of that, though my son has a different auto-immune disease, called EOE.

    Starting EEN Tomorrow

Thanks for the tip about the ice. Because of my oldest son's Dx (eosinophilic esophagitis) I already do a lot of from-scratch cooking. SCD would require more from-scratch than I already do (which is quite a lot!) but I've picked up tricks over the years, and I have a babysitter come help me...

    Starting EEN Tomorrow

Hello everyone! I'm 33 and was diagnosed with Crohn's about two months ago. My GI finally found a nutritionist who was willing to consult with us and I'm beginning EEN tomorrow using Orgain and supplementing with sublingual B12, fish oil, Vit D3 drops and iron capsules. I'm also permitted...
