    Your experience with azathioprine?

I had an immediate allergic reaction to azathioprine, where both arms broke out in severe hives, or something like it. I couldn't convince the office staff of my GI how serious it was to get in right away, so I walked into their office and showed it to them. It scared them; they brought a nurse...

What is happening to me (Anxiety?)

Three unrelated things that help my sense of well being, which calms me down: 1. hot baths, maybe even with epsom salts 2. metamucil--even a half teaspoon dissolved in water calms my gut and slows the big D 3. meditation--repetition of a meaningless word tricks your mind into dreaming, and...

Does this sound like a stricture or just constipation?

I think a lesson I've learned is that with Crohn's, it pays to get in early to your GI. So many people take so long to get diagnosed and stabilized, partially from fear (like me I'm sure) and mostly from the glacial slowness of the medical bureaucracy. My crisis happened at the area between...

    Antibiotics Support Group

Almost a year since the last post above, irishgal, are you still doing well on anti-MAP therapy? I'm just coming into the MAP discussion and don't know much about it. Would it be worth talking to my GI about, and are docs getting more likely to prescribe? The Humira I'm on is working in that I'm...

Sore armpit on Humira and groin symptom

I used bandaids with neosporin covering individual spots early on. Soon, however, I developed bigger and more places so bandaids weren't appropriate. Experience shows me they routinely show up and eventually go away. And then my dermatologist agreed I was seeing various degrees of psoriasis...

Sore armpit on Humira and groin symptom

adubb09, you didn't give any details but I think going on Humira almost 4 years ago increased my skin problems. Ironically I went to a dermatologist for it and he said he prescribes Humira for it!! It's rather similar to Humira being prescribed for joint problems, but I think it worsened mine...

    Will Humira Go Generic?

Doug, I would like to change over to Remicade, and my GI has even offered to do it for retirement purposes. Another Crohn's person says I'd probably feel better on it. But my GI has also put the fear of God in me about diminishing alternatives. If I leave Humira and then my body rejects...

    Humira Club Support Group

Isn't a support group great? You think you're in trouble or somehow abnormal and friends are here to give you perspective and tell you it happens to everyone fairly often. It always helps to talk to someone who shares your problem.

    Tests

I take blood tests for antibodies each quarter; it's a simple draw at my local hospital. One time they had a nurse come to my home to take blood and send it to California. I don't think my insurance liked it and I ended up paying a lot for it, like $600. Don't offhand remember what that test was.

A flare or I need a change in medication?

Boy, I'll bet that's pretty stressful. They say stress contributes.

A flare or I need a change in medication?

Ron, I can relate. I've been going three or four times before going to work in the morning and then a couple times after. But this is not new territory for me. My wife says I get irregular and start feeling sickly before changes in the weather, or before and during stressful situations. We bid...

Diagnosed at age 50 & over Support Group

I didn't join this group because I was diagnosed at 32, but now at 66 and some of the stories I'm reading are familiar and informative. Currently I stay away from dairy and coffee. I can drink an occasional Pepsi but it loosens me up. Was surprised to see the discussion about staying away from...

Partial stricture - when is surgery necessary?

I don't know that Medicare is rougher for normal folks. You get a supplement for what's not covered by Medicare, and you live a normal life. For us poor souls on a biologic, however, Medicare has to blow through the various levels of coverage. That means we have to pay $7000 or $8000 out of...

Partial stricture - when is surgery necessary?

Ron, thats what I'm using while I'm still working and have Blue Cross. I think all of that changes if you go on Medicare.

Partial stricture - when is surgery necessary?

Brad, I had two hospitalizations for strictures within three years of each other in 2010 and 2013. They were at the site of my ileostomy in 1982, after which I was fortunately reconnected. If I remember they said the scar tissue itself had gotten inflamed, and I would probably always have it at...

    Prayer and Spiritual Support

So many people with so many problems, I pray for Ron and his father; Sandy and her mom; and for my daughter who has another incurable condition called EDS and Chiari Malformation. She has headaches every day and nothing successfully stops them for long. She might be facing multiple fusions in...

    A Horrid Return

Welcome, cireland32600. A lot of us here (I'm pretty new to this forum, too) will tell you that Crohn's is a hard condition to have, but you can live with it. The key things are: 1. don't go into denial. See your GI a couple times a year and be open and truthful with him. I went undiagnosed...

Why do we never talk about a cure?

I just stumbled across this thread on the same day I found this article about another cure. Hopefully I'm not repeating, and others will put it in context. http://healthlivetips.org/finally-new-vaccine-hope-to-complete-cure-crohns-disease/

    Joke

Morris , an 82 year-old man, went to the doctor to get a physical. A few days later, the doctor saw Morris walking down the street with a gorgeous young woman on his arm. A couple of days later, the doctor spoke to Morris andsaid, 'You're really doing great, aren't you?' Morris replied, 'Just...

    Can't Get Shingles Shot

Thanks, Penguin; does this suggest problems with IBD and Crohn's generally because of weakened immunity? And in particular would that apply especially to Shingles, with the commercials suggesting one in three will get it?
