    Colonic (LARGE Intestine) Stricture ?????

I would also go for the surgery - I would ask them to do it laproscopically - quicker recovery. I had a restriction all the cancer tests were negative and when they removed my colon much to every ones surprise there was cancer. Catch it early - other than doing biopsies I am not sure there are...

    Steroids.

If I am on 60+ I do not gain much weight - just get moon faced and have mood swings. I eat more and drink more. When the dose drops then I start to gain a few pounds.

How does crohns prepare you for parenting

Just looking at the lighter side of life, I was thinking about how crohns has prepared me for parenting. 1) I always know where a bathroom is in the mall (shopping centre for the Brits :)) 2) No problem in waking up at night going to the bathroom. I have had plenty of practice 3) Poop spills...

    Err...know-it-all doctors!

If it is any comfort I know how you feel. If you ask them to prescribe something different they seem to deliberately pick something else and if you go back later to see them you hear those immortal words "I don't know why I did not prescribe (what you suggested in the first place) before?"

    Cipro

Dehydration will give you headaches - I would drink plenty of water. Come to think of it I think that Cipro had the same effect on me too

    Budesonide (Entocort)

I was on Entocort for quite a while without too much reaction - Imuran was a different story could not tolerate that. Does your GP have a nurse you could talk too? Good luck

    Crohn's and Severe Anemia

Good luck Alyssa - I too managed to score a 6.8 heamaglobin level - then they gave me two pints of blood and made me stay overnight. I know when I joked with my surgeon about it later he told me that the error margin in the test was high. I would still ask questions or at least ask them for a...

    Can I avoid the bag?

Welcome As Kev says there are many treatments available now before surgery and even then with surgery you can still avoid the pouch. I repeat what Kev suggests about a food diary and vitamins. Good luck

    Leg Pain

Please check with your Doctor. I know you are on prednisone but I once had Erythema Nodosum - inflammation of the nerve endings in the leg. It was very hard to walk very sore to the touch and prednisone fixed it. I would just make sure. Hope you feel better soon - Remicade is good stuff - no...

    Colon removal

Wishing her all the best and a speedy recovery. If they are connecting her small intestine to her rectum - what they forget to tell you is that part of the small intestine will expand a little and act like a sort of colon. I read that after surgery. Life is not too bad afterwards. :)

    So simple, yet not

My B12 defieiency went a different route - it had been frequently low and then dropped below the normal range. I always looked good at Halloween with such a white face :) I got given a nasal spray that sort of helped. I asked my GI at the time about parasites and was told it was too remote a...

    Elevated ACL test

Just recently I have been getting elevated ACL blood tests (between 74 and 99). My other liver enzymes are fine all within normal range. After my colectomy for crohn's 4+ years they found cancer. How to make a patient feel happy tell them after they have taken out the lump :) Naturally I am...

    Colon removal

I am sorry to hear about your cousin. I had that choice 4 years ago. It was not easy. I did get a second opinion from another GI and spoke to a few other doctors. in my case my intestinal walls had thickened too much having had Crohn's for 20 years. Initially I was trying to persuade the surgeon...

What a bad news day! Got hugs?

Big hugs too Remicade completely quitened down my fistulas (no troubles since touch wood) and significantly reduced the amount of inflamation in my body at the time. It enabled me to have a colectomy in one operation not two. The surgeon wanted to do as little surgery as possible, I am OK with...

    Shingles

Great to hear that, catching it early is the key. Hopefully your nephew will be fine too

What dosage of Prednisone did you start with?

It depended on the flare up. I have started at 120, 80,60,40 and once at 30 usually for 5 days and then they tapered me off over weeks. Sorry not much help. I know prednisone can effect people differently but be aware of the mood swings.

    I had fistula surgery

The infliximab/ remicade actually put my fistulas into remission. Interesting to hear that they can raise their ugly heads years later. Thanks for the information
