"Gene loss weakens antibacterial defense in inflammatory bowel disease in mouse study"
An article in science daily. Could this be an important breakthrough in the cause of IBD???
I don't think the researchers are anywhere near a medication. It requires more research to confirm this finding. Once they have confirmed, hopefully they will work on a medication. It is a new finding but a medication could be years away. There is another thread which I had posted in which a...
First they have to do a study with a wider sample size. Then they have to find a medication which works which will require quite a number of clinical trials. And third - I am sure, any medication which works will keep a healthy balance of PD-L2 instead of suppressing it to a dangerous low level...

Interesting study though the sample size was not big. But if it is valid across a wider sample then it could possibly open up new avenues of treatment. Let us hope that they are able to do...

I came across this article -

I hope they are able to run clinical trials in humans soon and I hope that this...
I came across this article. Though it doesn't establish causality so far. Anyone across more research on this. https://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2021/12/211222084024.htm
Thanks for your response and sending the link. I think extensive use of antibiotics is very likely the cause. In my case also, whenever I have had antibiotics in the last few years due to a throat infection, it has caused diaherria. And after taking oral probiotics, it has gotten better...
Hi @Scipio hope you are doing well. Has there been a study which compares the gut microbiome of people with Crohn's vs gut microbiome of people without? Any differences between the two can give useful insights and potential new treatments.
I have suspected it myself that antibiotic use can lead to gut bacteria imbalance and can cause Crohn's disease. It kills off the good bacteria along with the bad bacteria. But my suspicion is not the same as evidence. It is a good study. If this is true then probiotic treatment to restore the...
I wish that the company carries human trials sooner than that. They have done trials in mice already. Does anyone have a contact in this company and find out more about their plans? It will be great to keep an eye on it.
Hi @Scipio
This article seems very interesting. But without getting carried away, any idea on when they will be able to carry clinical trials on people with IBD?
Hi All
I came across this article. Though unrelated to Crohn's, I hope someone carries out serious research and see if it has an impact on Crohn's.

Hi @Maya142 - I think my son is doing ok on methotrexate. He had his blood tests 2 weeks ago. We don't have the blood test results of the last test. Fingers crossed, I am hoping that the results are normal. Thanks for asking.
