    Flaring Away From Home

Hi, Jill. I have been in a similar situation as you. I thought that I was in remission for about a month and a half, then I started getting really tender in my lower left (my "regular" ouchy bleeding spot). I haven't had any bleeding (knock wood), but have had a lot of indigestion, and...

    A bad day

I have had UC for around 20 years and I also have a hard time accepting that this is a "forever" thing. I get frustrated and resentful that I am healthy otherwise - I eat well, don't drink or smoke, I exercise, etc... but then there's the UC. I have been having a bad week and completely...

    You should see a counselor

I think that unless someone has a chronic disease, that they can't wrap their mind around what it feels like to feel like crap all of the time and not know what is going to happen next. Of course it's depressing! Just the physical effects alone are devastating. Then add in the worrying about...

What do you define as a flare up?

Blood, diarrhea more than 4 times a day and bad cramping.

    Eosinophilic Inflammation

My eosinophils were raised in one of my blood tests. I cut out dairy and wheat/gluten and they went back to normal after 4 months. I do have UC, but it was exacerbated by the food allergy.

    Does your hair grow back??

I am having the same side effects from mesalamine (used for my UC). I stopped taking it about two months ago, as my flare had subsided, and my hair has been coming out like crazy ever since. It's all over - the shower, my car, my clothes - UGH!!! I didn't have any surgery, so it's definitely...

    Hi

Hi Liz. I'm sorry that you're feeling so awful right now. I have had the blood and D last for 6-8 weeks before stopping. I have never taken pred., as I refuse to. Have you tried mesalamine enemas (sometimes called Rowasa)? They seem to stop my bleeding quickly every time. Sometimes I'm too...

Has anyone tried Boswellia for UC or Crohn's?

I am thinking about trying Boswellia for my UC. I just got over a huge flare and want to try to use a natural anti-inflammatory herb to try and taper off of my Rowasa enemas. I have heard that Boswellia works well, but wanted to see if anyone else has had success with it. I am losing a lot of...

Suffering Diarrhea for 2 months Already

I completely agree with Crabby! What if you are six hours away from home and need immediate medical attention? I would go to the ER and get checked out as soon as possible so you can get treated and get better.

    Another question...

Can she wear a pull-up when you are going to be out for a while? When I'm having a flare, as an adult, I wear a "pad" just in case I am not near a bathroom and have an accident. It makes me feel more secure so I don't get all stressed out about being out and not knowing where there's a bathroom.

    Probiotics and Fever?

Hi, Cookie. I take probiotics every day and have never had a fever from taking them. When you first start taking them, they can cause gas, bloating, and headaches because the good bacteria kills off the bad bacteria. Maybe it's possible that they could slightly increase your body temperature...

    Taking Accutane with Ulcerative Colitis

Please stay away from Accutane! I took two courses of it when I was much younger (about 20 years ago) and am certain that it caused my UC. I never had any stomach problems until after I took it. It is not worth risking her health for clear skin.

New to this Forum - Ulcerative Colitis for 8 years

Hi Jaggartini, I have two children, and also have not had any symptoms when I was pregnant or for at least a year after with each child. My flare-ups are also seasonal. I seem to get them after the holidays in Feb. or March. My GI doctor said that a few other patients have also had...

Is there more people with crohns

Hi Matty. I have UC, not Crohns. From reading all of the posts, it seems like there's a lot more bleeding with UC (at least for me) when I'm in a flare. My UC is in the lower colon area, as is most UC. Crohns is usually up higher, and in the small intestine. I agree with Rebecca about the...

    NEVER again will I eat...

Dairy, mustard, wheat/gluten, anything with vinegar in it, and raw veggies (when I'm in a flare) don't work for me. I would not even try popcorn anymore.

Suffering Diarrhea for 2 months Already

Hi, Lily. Sorry that you're having such a bad time. Zofran works great to stop diarrhea. I've taken it before for a short period and my daughter has taken it when she had a bad stomach virus and was becoming dehydrated. Some doctors will prescribe it for short term help. It might help your...

Need info : refined sugar and IBD

I think that refined foods with sugar are bad because they feed the "bad" bacteria and yeast in your gut. I don't think that they cause IBD, but certainly make it worse (at least for me).

    Home from colonoscopy -- Undiagnosed!

It took me forever to get diagnosed with UC. When I first went to the GI doctor, I was in my late teens/early twenties, and even though I had blood (lots), and took stool samples that showed that there was blood, they didn't officially diagnose me for a while. Personally I think that they...

    Probiotics and Depression

Hi, Michael. I take probiotics every day, and have never noticed any symptoms of depression. I have been taking them for a couple of years and just switched to a new brand about 2 months ago. I agree with Dan about depression and flaring/inflammation. I get really overwhelmed and depressed...
