    FODMAP Journey

We had a lactose intolerance test done (a hydrogen test) and it came back negative. I think he can likely eat dairy with less restrictions. He eats fairly large amounts of lactose free vanilla yogurt, lactose free milk and cheddar cheese with no problems at all so casein can't be a problem. I...

    Much Ado About Nothing! eh!

:getwell: Sascot! crohnsinct: I LOVE the cartoon you posted. I have two dyslexic kids and a dyslexic husband so I am the odd one out in the house! My son also tests with an IQ in the gifted range but is dyslexic on top of it. Currently trying to figure out how to get him into a honours...

    FODMAP Journey

Overdue for an update. Things have been GREAT! Aside from a bit of a stomach bug, that we all succumbed to, he has been feeling well and attending school and all of his after school activities. This is a major win for us!!! Diet wise I have allowed him limited amounts of cheating. Mostly it...

    Sort of clean scopes?!

My son has also been given the IBS on top of IBD diagnosis. It has been a hard one for me to accept. My son's fecal calprotectin repeatedly come back normal even when he is in horrible pain, unable to eat, spends hours on the toilet, has joint pain, and looks grey. Has your daughter ever...

    Gastroporesis

My son tried Iberogast for a while. I don't think it helped him but it was certainly worth a try. He hated the taste of it and called it Gagamieister, after I told him I thought it tasted like Jagermeister. It really isn't too bad in a cup of hot water, just tastes like a herbal tea.

    Trying a biologic again?

I really hope that the combo works wonders for her. I've got my fingers crossed.

SIBO during EEN? EEN failing to help?

EEN didn't entirely solve my son's problems either. He still had a lot of abdominal pain while on EEN. I now think that it may have been because some of the formula we used contained corn syrup solids (which are high in fodmaps). We have been having success in reducing my son's abdominal pain...

    Trying a biologic again?

My son takes Sulfasalazine for joint issues and azathioprine for GI issues. I used to think that the Sulfasalazine wasn't doing anything until he tried to come off of it and almost immediately had a arthritis flare that required prednisone. May be worth a try. These decisions are so tough.

    Crohns in young females

Fecal calprotectin can be done at Life Labs and is not covered by MSP so it costs $120. You do need a doc to request it for you but the family doc could do it. It is a simple stool sample test. It takes 3 weeks to get the results.

    FODMAP Journey

It hasn't been too hard at all. But a caveat to that would be that I already made most things from scratch so I have just changed my recipes somewhat. If I had relied on prepared food and had to make the switch it would likely have seemed harder. My son finds cutting out wheat the hardest...

    FODMAP Journey

The good streak continues with a little blip on the 27th. He didn't feel too great on the 27th and the dark circles under the eyes reappeared. We tightened the diet up again and he is feeling better now. I am attributing the blip to a package of Tim Tams that a relative gave him for...

Is fructose bad for leaky gut?

I really don't have anything to contribute to the discussion on leaky gut but I have been doing a lot of reading on fructose. My son has Crohn's and according to all his labs his inflammation is under control but he still has chronic abdominal pain. GI thinks it is IBS in addition to IBD...

Any ?s I should ask rheumatologist?

My son's rheumatology appointments are 1 hour long and he also goes to a physiotherapist at the rheumatology clinic. I LOVE the physio. She has periodically taken very detailed measurements of the range of motion of all sorts of joints, we're talking even fingers and toes. It is great to get...

Does anybody suffer from tendon pain?

Treatment has been prednisone to bring flares under control quickly and sulfasalazine to maintain remission. We tried to stop the sulfasalazine once but he almost immediately had a enthesitis flare so I guess it is working. When he is in pain we try icing it or soaking in warm water (i.e. one...

Does anybody suffer from tendon pain?

My son gets enthesitis which is inflammation where the ligaments and tendons insert into the bone. He once had a flare in the back of his heel at the Achilles tendon insertion point. It hurt so much that he couldn't walk. Enthesitis is common with IBD related arthritis.

    Flushed Cheeks/Face

My son has had the flushing of the face you describe. He used to get it fairly frequently. GI was unconcerned. I think it is an inflammatory response type of thing.

    Newbie!

:welcome: Cupkatemom Sorry to hear that your daughter has been unwell. My son was diagnosed at the age of 10 too. He has been on Imuran since his diagnosis almost 2 years ago. I too was unhappy about my son having to take a medication with such scary possible side effects. It got easier...

GF Peanut Butter Rice Krispie Squares 1 cup peanut butter 1/2 cup brown sugar 1/2 cup golden syrup (make sure it is pure cane syrup and NOT high fructose corn syrup) 1 tsp vanilla 3 cups Rice Krispies (the Brown Rice ones are GF and taste the same) In a saucepan melt the peanut butter, sugar...

    Sulfasalazine and nausea?

My son had more nausea and abdominal pain when he first started taking sulfasalazine. We also discovered that he feels much better if he takes it with a full meal so he takes his am dose with breakfast and his pm dose with dinner.
