    Is a colonoscopy necessary?

Wow I can't believe you were denied for "pre-existing conditions". No one knows what causes IBD yet the insurance companies has the gall to justify the denial based on their claim that "it would had been something building up for a few years". I'd say you have a good case to argue what their...

What are your SAFE and UNSAFE foods?

First day back to work. Have to add death by chocolate cake to the banned foods list as it had triggered bad abdominal cramps that knocked me out sick for a whole week (it is now cramps by chocolate cake :) ). That cake never bothered me before, my system is getting more sensitive. Haven't...

Best food to eat and gain weight

If you can tolerate pasta, carbohydrates are a good healthy way to put on weight. But watch you don't have too much starch from large pasta like lasagna, which is known to trigger abdominal cramps. I had to cut raw nuts out of my diet, but cooked nuts don't bother me. I also found that dark...

Caffeine: coffee or tea or else?

I don't buy coffee at restaurants or stores coffee shops anymore. They make it too strong and it irritates my digestive tract. I make my coffee at home and I make it weak. They supply coffee at work, I pour half a cup of coffee and fill the rest up with hot water. Same with any hotel that...

Getting too much protein in diet?

Protein does not bother me, not even in high amounts. Neither do carbs. But all CD patients are different regarding reaction to foods. It is bewildering. Can you eat greek yogurt? My surgeon recommended them. The probiotics are good for the piping, and the protein is good for the body.

Can to much Garlic cause diarrhea?

Depends how you consume it. Most foods with garlic are mixed with oil and/or butter which would be the bigger contributor to diarrhea. I make my own spaghetti sauce which has lots of garlic and it hasn't given me the runs, but garlic pizza can. No experience eating it raw though.

    Peanut butter and Crohns

Peanut butter doesn't usually bother me, but for some reason my CD doesn't like PB M&Ms or Reeses Pieces and I had to cut those out of my diet. Everybody is different.

    Inflammation markers

My inflammation marker is my watch, it is usually loose around my wrist. If it won't slide halfway down my forearm, that's a sign of inflammation. Pants are another good marker. When I had a flare-up, my usual pants would fit tight. I have pants with elastic waistbands reserved for those times.

Is it safe to take Ibuprofen?

I have no problem consuming NSAID. During a spell with a bad shoulder muscle, my doctor even prescribed an 800mg dosage and I had no problem with it. This is not to be construed as medical advice, and you really need to consult with your doctor. Every CD patient is different.

Crohn's Disease is not contagious. Until it is?

Be careful of the internet, very few websites are a reliable source. WebMD is one of the few reputable ones and it correlates with the books I read that are authored by health professionals specializing in IBD. No one knows what causes CD, but it is also known that it is not contagious or...

    Bile Acid Malabsorption Support Group

Just found this thread... that explains why my anus burns 2-3 times a week! All this started after resection/terminal ileum and removal of gall bladder both at same time in 2011 (oy did that hurt). I knew that the GB regulated the bile to help the piping digest fatty foods, and without it my...

I don't miss the spicy foods I had to cut out, but I do crave pepperoni sometimes.
