    Will anti-inflammatories inflame my reading?

It's a NSAID, so if you do have some sort of IBD then taking that will make you worse, and show things up more clearly on a scope, and actually make a diagnosis easier. Part of the reason I got diagnosed so quickly was because I had been taking ibuprofen continuously for 2 weeks!

    Question about Pregnant Cronies :)

I'm in remission, and am actually feeling better with the pregnancy than I was before- I can eat normally with few side effects! And the bloating I have been suffering with is actually more or less gone :) You are high risk if you are pregnant in a flare. I am under the care if a consultant as...

Camptodactyly - Do you have a bent pinky finger?

Nope, don't have it. However, I do have abnormal fingers- when I straighten my fingers they actually bend back by around 30 degrees. And I have the ability to lock my first joints and bend the top joint on my 1st and 2nd fingers on each hand.

    Question about Pregnant Cronies :)

I haven't had any surgeries, but I am pregnant at the moment, and my midwife says she has someone on her books at the moment with Crohn's who has had several surgeries. So it doesn't completely rule it out, but it can cause problems with adhesions and with giving birth.

Improper treatment through ER doctors lack of proper investigation. Anyone had this?

There are some people that do not show inflammation in their blood. Now you have it documented that you were extremely inflamed but with normal bloods you should explain that if/when it happens again. On the other hand, there are people whose bloods go way off before any noticeable symptoms...

Stomach pain worse but already on steroids?

What dose of pred are you taking for your eyes? As you were only on it for 3 weeks before I am guessing it was lower than typically used for IBD. So maybe it's not enough to give you complete relief from the stomach problems?

    Pregnant & Flaring

I guess OBs can't prescribe meds like pred because that's not their job. They really don't know any more than your GP or family doctor about digestive disorders. Would you ask your GI to assist you giving birth? And what if the OB were to miss something serious like a blockage? I guess that's...

    IBD or something else?

To be honest, bright red blood, in one place on the BM screams hemmie or tear to me. How supple are you? Is there any chance you could use a mirror to examine yourself down there, to see if you can see anything obvious like a tear?

    Question

If your jejunum is inflamed then I would say it is your Crohn's causing the pain. Have you spoken to your GI or nurse?

    Pregnant & Flaring

That sounds bad. If it were me, I'd be in hospital! At least then you don't have to wait for a GI referral. And I would spell it out to them about the IBS/IBD confusion. If need be, you could use the term enterocolitis (meaning inflammation of the digestive tract) as they may then start...

Do you go ahead of the line to crap NOW??

    1) I would if I had to. 2) and 3) maybe a potty and a blanket in the back seat- you can get a 'potette' that has a disposable liner/bag thing. My car has enough room to allow me to sit on a potty, the blanket is for modesty. 4) if you gotta go, you gotta go. Though in my case, standing stock...

Whats the most frustrating/funniest thing a DR has said to you???

This reminds me of the first time I went to my local A and E (around 1 in the morning) the nurse asked for a urine sample, like you I had been puking since 3 pm- and had been everyday for the week before. So couldn't actually produce one. The nurse just said 'well I can't do anything for you...

    Swollen belly

I too suffer with bloating. I try to have a cup of hot herbal or fruit tea after a meal (apparently the warmth helps with digestion). Also some foods will make me more bloated than others- particularly vegetables. Massaging the belly can help to release some of the gas. I mention the bloating...

Help my crohns is back again

Ahhh that makes sense. One thing I have heard about is using a drug that interacts with the 6mp or aza- like allopurinol. Because of the interaction it increases the strength of the med without increasing the dose- so no more enzyme is needed. Might be worth asking about.

    Very personal, desperate for advice!

OK, this had me intrigued as I remember experiencing something similar when I was younger, except mine was inner labia. A quick google found this article. It suggests that the swelling is a Crohn's symptom and so treating the Crohn's is the best way forward. By the way, after reading the...

Prednisone and 6mp making diarrhea worse

It isn't normal for either med to make your diarrhoea worse. So either it's a coincidence, and it's something else worsening your D, like maybe the change in diet between hospital and home, or just the different surroundings (my first time in hospital I did not poop the whole 5 days, then when I...

Finally saw my new gi today! Questions about fecal calprotectin?

The cut off is considered to be around 51. So the 49 you had on pred is considered normal :)

    Pregnant & Flaring

I was told a flare is more dangerous than taking most drugs (metho being the exception) especially now you are past the first tri. I believe a dose of up to 40mg of pred is considered pregnancy safe. But let's hope you get some relief and quickly!

Help my crohns is back again

Ruthy- 30mg seems to me to be rather a low dose of mercaptopurine. Is there are a particular reason why your dose is so low?

Help my crohns is back again

Sounds like you need to be on a maintenance med, once the pred has you in remission the maintenance med takes over and lets you come off the pred without your symptoms returning. I see you have tried Imuran but it doesn't seem to be working for you! Could you maybe go try a higher dose? Or maybe...
