    Accidentally ate undercooked hamburger

When we were omnis, we got what we thought was "stomach flu" once or twice every year. When we went veg, all of that stopped. We weren't eating pink meat, either, so it was obviously cross contamination, which I'd never heard of at that time. Whenever I eat in non-veg restaurants, I always...

I can't be happy for my successful children

I believe it's premature at this point and I would get lots of counceling before taking such an action.

I can't be happy for my successful children

I'm not at all angry at their success. Their father and I worked hard to make it happen. I'm angry that they can't see and appreciate that fact! And I'm even angrier that they use it to hurt people, especially their younger siblings. Our 19 year old, so far, is not a good student and it...

I can't be happy for my successful children

My husband used to joke that the first thing they teach in engineering is arrogance 101. Unfortunately, my older son seemed to take it to heart. I love this quote: "A good person, and a good brother/sister - should know to appreciate what life has given him, and, should know how to leverage...

I can't be happy for my successful children

Pretty much the opposite. I focussed on the older ones and neglected my youngest. We didn't even realize he had Crohn's until March. His symptoms were very subtle for a long time. :(

I can't be happy for my successful children

My youngest is very hurt. I think that he has always felt unappreciated by his oldest siblings, but 'knew' he could count on them during times of trouble. I wasn't as sure. Yet, I never thought I would cut any of my children out of my life. I felt extremely close to the oldest 2 until they...

I can't be happy for my successful children

We moved to our basement and rent out the top 2 floors, to save for our youngest. It isn't much of a sacrifice, as it's about 1000 square feet and there's only the 3 of us now. Doing so has allowed us to save $1,600 more per month. Since the other kids have all moved out, it is not a...

I can't be happy for my successful children

They saw their older sister get sick and then appear to fully recover. That's what Crohn's was/is to them. But, when I try to tell them that their little brother is worse off, they get a look on their face like, of course it's worse, because it's happening to the 'prince'. They are clueless...

I can't be happy for my successful children

I want to thank everyone for your replies. I know it's hard to understand a family dynamic from the outside, but ours just feels terribly wrong to me. Still, I value other perspectives. To clarify, our kids are 32, 25, 19 and 16. Growing up, I considered my 5 years older brother, my arch...

I can't be happy for my successful children

I just found out my 25 year old son is on his way to Japan. He's an engineer and has traveled a lot for work and pleasure. He is highly paid and wears the best clothes, eats the best food, etc. I want to be happy for him, but I am not. He's done nothing for his little brother, who has...

2 year old just diagnosed :(

When you say, unsuccessfully, do you mean it didn't work or your child couldn't get it down? If I had to do this with a toddler, I would eat when they napped and keep all food out of sight. I'd also act out a little story, where some cute little stuffed animal had to eat weird food for a while...

Just not sure what to do....

I woke up during my first colonoscopy, too. It wasn't that doctor's policy to put people very far under, for them, but one should be put under deeper, for endo, if only because feeling like you can't breath is ***damn terrifying.

Just not sure what to do....

I don't think it's normal to wake up and even less so to remember doing it. My daughter is an RN and she said she watched a man suffer quite a bit with a similar procedure and he didn't remember any of it. They're supposed to give you drugs to make you forget.

    Anything to these help books?

SCD works perfectly for my daughter, she doesn't even need any meds, but my son is a different story. He's on it since early May and doing okay, but he doesn't feel perfect. He takes all of his "healthy" foods in the form of smoothies and puréed soups. Today he ate a smoothie with half a...

    Headaches and crohns

So sorry you are having headaches. My son get migranes occasionally. I think he's had about 4 since being diagnosed in March. For him, they are intense, but don't last more than a couple of hours if he can lay down in a dark room and be quiet.

    Vacationing with Crohns

Son has only taken one trip since diagnosis and it went very well, mostly because he was lucky enough to be in remission. He's on the SCD, so we planned out all of his meals, including SCD legal snacks to eat on the plane, but we were just trying to maintain the status quo. I don't see how a...

How do you tell mucus from a parasite??

Sometimes I have mucus that looks exactly like ramen noodles. A few years ago, I thought it might be worms and took a sample to the hospital where I was told if it's not segmented, it's not an animal, basically. Of course, my mucus never moved, either. ;)
