Off Topic: What are you reading?

Just to take a little break from IBD... what are y'all reading these days? And medical journals don't count. :) If you're not a big reader, what do you do for distraction? Cheers!

Is it necessary to have colonoscopy in 3 months

Welcome to the Forum... like the others have said, there is a Parents section that is a wonderful resource of information. How old is your son? As MLP said, Lialda (Pentasa, etc) only works on the top layer and Crohn's can affect the deeper tissue, so it's not a great maintenance med for...

    Remicade worries

Just a suggestion... when my son had an abscess that was draining out his bottom, he wore women's pantiliners to catch the mess. Embarrassing, yes, but you're the only one who will know (and the lovely people reading this post). It wasn't perfect, but the sticky of the liners kept them in place...

    Remicade $$ Vent

Just needed to vent on the cost of Remicade in the US. When my son started two and a half years ago, the entire clinic trip, including nurse time, labs, etc was about $3000, most of which our insurance thankfully covers. I was just looking at his EOB from his last infusion (putting together...

Poll: How long have you been on Remicade?

My son is going on 2 1/2 years and been in remission the whole time. We're adding mtx this week to hopefully keep this going awhile longer. Ten years would be wonderful!!

Prometheus - What has your insurance paid for the test?

I called Prometheus and said I just wanted to double check that the bill was right. She said, yes, we were responsible for the $2250. My son also had a second test just a few weeks ago and I asked about that one and she said all future tests, as long as they are done for the exact same disease...

    Methotrexate??

Big biologic fan here too! My son has been on Remicade for almost 2 1/2 years now and in remission the whole time. One thing to consider is you'll want to get his disease under control before puberty really starts to kick in to avoid growth delays. In that case Remicade might be a better option...

    Growth hormone therapy

We considered it when my son as 14 and about the same size as yours. In the end, the endocrinologist said it was up to us, but she typically didn't encourage IBD kids to do it, because they need to be super healthy at the time (solid remission). She said once a child reaches remission and is...

    Adding Methrotrexate

I see. Well, if there is a chance that meds can help first, that would be best. I know it's really hard to determine if there is scar tissue. I think we got lucky in that all three specialities were willing to get together and make a recommendation. Good luck with the methotrexate!

    Do you use a probiotic?

Again, this makes me wonder. Maybe probiotics aren't much help specifically for Crohn's, but are helpful in other ways.

    Colonoscopy Prep

He's seeing a therapist who he trusts (HUGE!) and is working through multiple issues. That's all we can ask of him right now. Like I said before, all concerned parties think this the best path for the time being. Quite honestly, it's very hard for me to even talk about this. Heartbreaking...

    Colonoscopy Prep

Only waiting a little because he needs a break emotionally. He's very overwhelmed with all the medical appointments lately and his GI is more concerned about his mental health right now than the MRE, especially if the biopsies come back ok. We've got a lot of tough issues going on right now with...

    Colonoscopy Prep

Everything looked okay visually, but as you all know, we need to wait for the biopsies. His issues have always been in his small intestine though, so he'll likely need an MRE soon. I'm thinking summer... unless he continues to lose weight. Next weigh in will be at his April 1st infusion. We're...

    Colonoscopy Prep

Theyre running an hour behind and it's only 9:30am! I'm trapped in an very small room with a very grumpy teenager. It's just radiating off him. Fun times! As luck would have it, he decided to try and be brave and do he IV straight on, no jtip, no numbing creme. She missed. Blew the vein. More...

    Colonoscopy Prep

Yes, he took three Ducolax at noon and started drinking around 2pm. Unfortunately, I haven't seen the toilet bowl. I'm just going on what he told me. He said it's not as clear as water, but more like dirty water. He hasn't been to the bathroom in over an hour now.

    Colonoscopy Prep

Goodness, this prep isn't going well. Sooooo... what if he's done drinking, but still doesn't have clear stools? He started at noon and it's 9pm now.

    Adding Methrotrexate

My son had a resection three years ago. What locked it in for us what that we requested that his GI, surgeon and radiologist all get in the same room and come to a definitive recommendation. In his case, the stricture he had was all scar tissue, which no medication can fix, and was only 3mm in...

    Prometheus Testing for Remicade levels/Antibodies

Oh my, oh my, oh my!! They just called back and said the adjustment is supposed to be $2250 (not $250) and we only need to pay $250! I couldn't help myself and starting crying on the phone. We are just swamped with all the beginning of the year medical bills right now and I'm so overwhelmed...

    Opinions on Doctor's Diagnosis

Just my opinion, but I see no reason why you can't go gluten free now. Heck, people do it all the time. The only reason not to is if you haven't done the testing process yet, but you have. For what it's worth, my son felt better within a week of going gluten free with his Celiac dx. I have...

    Prometheus Testing for Remicade levels/Antibodies

Last page has the income guidelines: http://www.anserifx.com/PDF/Insurance-Financial-Support.pdf I just called and am personally not happy with the answer, since we fall under "the hitch" that CIC talked about and do not qualify for financial assistance. They did confirm that future tests...
