    Remicade & methotrexate

My son is on Remi every 6 weeks and oral methotrexate. No issues aside from having to up his Remi dose early on because he was burning through it by week six (vs eight). He's been in a pretty solid remission since starting Remicade three years ago. :)

New here. My 2 year old was just diagnosed.

Just reiterating what Pilgrim said on the Celiac. Not always accurate for little ones and as a side note... the Hep B non-immunity thing is fairly common amongst Celiacs. My Celiac son was tested and had no Hep B so had to do the booster. Even if the bloodwork comes back negative, just keep...

Where we are now and how freaked I am

    Sorry, but what is EDS?

    Azathioprine

What scares me is the part that it doesn't matter how long or short you've been on it. DS was on it for 6 months. :(

    Diagnosing 10yr old

My son's only symptom was vomiting. Initially we suspected Celiac and ran the blood work for that which came out positive (and something you might want to test for as well). His GI then did an endoscopy to confirm the Celiac and said as long as we're putting him under, let's do a colonoscopy as...

Fixing to start Remicade--any helpful tips?

Ask for the j-tip! My son uses it every time and it takes a ton of the anxiety out for him. I do believe it has to be ordered by the doctor though ahead of time. Have her drink a ton of water the night before. Makes the veins pop. If you're in a pediatric clinic, I'd recommend headphones or...

Parents of Pre-Teens and Teens with IBD

I'll email you, Jacqui. I'd love to know how you're going about all this. He has an appt with his GI in a couple weeks and we have lots of college questions for him! Glad to hear J made a decision!

Parents of Pre-Teens and Teens with IBD

Is there anyone from Indiana here? Looking for info on hospitals and infusion clinics near Purdue... Or maybe a better question, how does one go about finding a hospital/infusion clinic in cities you're not familiar with?

    PE class vent/dislocated kneecap

Oh no! My sister was recently in a car crash and shattered her kneecap (and broke her opposite ankle!). She also has a leg immobilizing brace and has lots of physical therapy going on. I'm not sure if this will apply to your daughter too, but my sister is allowed to bear weight... just can't...

    MMR Shedding/Avoidance & TB Test

I went to the orientation meeting tonight and we're good to go! Well, still need to get the TB and titre tests tomorrow, but assuming all is well, we get to start next week. I'm so excited!

Oh, you're right MLP. No MMR. Too many balls in the air.

    Have you considered Celiac Disease?

    Avoiding corticosteroids and terminal ileum

I agree with Maya and MLP's thoughts. I think the thing to focus on right now is getting his disease fully under control since puberty is knocking on his door. The fastest way to do that is going to be steroids and a good maintenance med. Did his GI mention Remi or is it just something you've...

    MMR Shedding/Avoidance & TB Test

Yes, that is something DS' GI suggested. I also just heard back from the pet therapy program and they said we can work things out... which I interpreted to mean that maybe I won't need to get the shot. On a side note, DS' little brother is due for his 12 yo MMR, etc vaccines this summer, so...

    School lunch

I've set up a schedule so that cold cuts aren't an every day thing. Mondays are quesadillas, Tuesdays are PBJ, Wednesdays are cold cuts, etc. It keeps things interesting for the kids, but also limits overdoing too much of one food that may be an inflammatory food. The only food he really avoids...

    MMR Shedding/Avoidance & TB Test

Nope. I asked last year and his GI said he'd only test again if DS had been in a situation that warranted it (i.e. been exposed, travel, etc.).

Where we are now and how freaked I am

Hope it goes well. I suppose now you have to do the dreaded "wait for results" thing for a week?

    MMR Shedding/Avoidance & TB Test

I have a therapy dog and we were about to sign up to volunteer for a program, but they require that I have an updated MMR vaccine and do a TB test. My question... DS is on Remicade and Methotrexate, therefore immune suppressed and should avoid live vaccines. He did have his second dose of MMR...
