    Thoughts please

The search for answers should be based on your experience and quality of life, not just the presence or absence of an observable mass. If things are not illuminated by the biopsies and other tests mentioned, then an investigative laparoscopy might help. They use tiny incisions and purely...

    No bowel prep before surgery??

I have had both with and without. It depends on lots of factors including surgeon preference, what part of the bowel is being removed, ability to tolerate prep, general health etc. I think it's become an increasing trend not to prep as this can cause issues too. It's a balance like any part of...

    Sigmoid colon & rectum removal?

A good middle ground for me was meeting with the stoma care specialist beforehand. It did include looking at and taking away different samples in order to get familiar (and to 'practise') but it felt contained and not endless.

    My current situation

How are you getting on? Any word on the pill cam results? I hope that you are able to get more calories now and that you begin to see an improvement. I appreciate you sharing your experiences on experimenting with your formula.

    Crohn's and Gastroparesis Support Group

I'm all too aware my CIPO could present problems with a NJ/J tube as well, but I figure bypassing one organ that refuses to work properly would be better than bypassing none. Unfortunately I don't think the local GI agrees. I have to make a decision whether to give in to the local GI now or wait...

    Crohn's and Gastroparesis Support Group

Thanks. I feel stuck. My GI at my local hospital is talking about an NG tube, but I don't think I have come across gastroparesis patients that can tolerate a gastric (rather than jejunal) tube feed. Am I wrong? I don't have the best rapport with this GI but I'm having a hold up funding wise with...

Anyone got any tips on their own or their kids experience with complete elemental feeds? I cannot get much down and it makes me gag partly because of the consistancy. I tried to move to unflavoured but that's slightly worse. The GP is not the sole reason I need the feed and my rapid weight loss...

    Sigmoid colon & rectum removal?

Glad to hear it has improved now :)

    Sigmoid colon & rectum removal?

It is possible for it to be temporary. With the rectum one of the main indications for a stoma is if the join is low.

    Sigmoid colon & rectum removal?

I've had a low anterior resection, was prepped for ileostomy; had it sited etc but didn't have it in the end, but I still have the greater part of my rectum. A good friend of mind had most of her rectum (and a good part of the sigmoid) removed. She was given an ileostomy intended to be...

Fine in the day- pain and cramping in evening

In dealing with obstructive issues I've found I have the lions share of symptoms in the evening. I guess it is due to the build up during the day until it becomes to much to handle. Is some sort of stricture or obstruction a possibility? The nothing happening for a while despite nausea and pain...

    Unflavoured elemental formulas and flavourings

For those of you who are having or have had unflavoured feeds or supplements do you use the flavour sachets / modjuls like the ones you can mix with elemental 028 or do you use your own flavours? And what flavours have you found best (both for the ones they give you and your own)?

    Hysterectomy and Crohn's

It sounds like you have given it a lot of thought and I think like any surgery that's the best you can do. Make a list of questions for the gyn, I think arming yourself with information is helpful too. There are different ways of doing a hysterectomy that you might want to discuss. Also if your...

Just had first resection - getting back to 'normal'

Hi Phoenixing, I can relate to what you are saying (I think!). I think that when you've had a surgery it can take a while to find your new normal. You have been through something intended to improve your situation and quality of life, and you are grateful, yet you still have a disease and you...

    Colonoscopy with scope guide

It is used routinely in my hosptial. Patients wouldn't necessarily know anything about it. However, I have had a colonscopy without it and that was disasterous and very painful. Though there were other reasons for my pain so it although the lack of guide did not help it would still have been...

Getting an upper endoscopy, nervous about what they might find

Good luck with the scope afidz. I know the possibilites are scary but it is better that it's found. I have also heard similar descriptions with nutcraker esophagus and achalasia but I don't know if they would ring true with for you.

    Feeling bullied by work

Hi, Sorry you are in this position; having stress heaped upon serious ill health is super unhelpful! First of all, although you do have to keep in touch with your manager and you do have to give them an idea of anticipated timeframes, you actually don't have to give them details (unless you...
