I've never been diagnosed with arthritis, but over the years I'd get a lot of joint pain that I always put down to just being generally unfit and spending half my life in front of computer screens. When I was finally diagnosed with Crohns and read about the link to arthritis the penny dropped...

New to Imuran- low wbc count

I do feel like I have a cold, but then this time of year I pretty much always do. So whether that's the one week of Aza I have no idea.

    Azathioprine and alcohol

That's a very low dose. I'm on 150mg, and I doubt I'm 6 times your weight. To be honest on 3 of the 8 days I've been on Aza I'd had some alcohol before taking them, and nothing bad has happened. The leaflet I have only says of alcohol that it may make any nausea worse, so really it's a question...

    Anyone one here have SIBO??

No nothing like that. They just told me Crohns. I did mention it, and the consultant said "there may be some of that as well". I got the impression from him that Crohns is far more likely. SIBO is when bacteria from your bowel gets up into your small bowel via the ileocaecal valve. Quite a few...

    Anyone one here have SIBO??

Whilst I was endlessly waiting for the doctors to diagnose me with something and after scouring every corner of the internet I'd convinced myself it must be SIBO. I was a bit surprised when they said "Crohn's". I think antibiotics are the treatment. I read somewhere a blog from someone who'd...

    Imuran/Azathioprine/6-MP Support Group

Taken my first 150mg dose half an hour ago. Nothing bad so far. I'm feeling a little bit dizzy, but to be honest I've been feeling a bit like that all day (hay fever I expect). I can't say I'm keen, but in another way I feel happy to be part of the club.:drink:

Embarrassing start to Crohn's...be warned, explicit details inside

If you had thickening of the ileum it's probably been happening for some time; years possibly. Maybe your adventures made some symptoms worse but I can't see how it could possibly have caused the disease.

To Aza or not to Aza.

So the story is I have some more Budesonide and some Aza (150mg), and he's going to let me know the result of the CRP test and tell me whether or not to take the Aza. Based on the last few results it seems unlikely the CRP will be normal. Seems reasonable.

My story need advice about CT scan

They told me not to leave as I'd get some diarrhoea, but after half an hour I left and walked home, and it never came.

To Aza or not to Aza.

That is the question. Since surgery in July 2014 they've been threatening me with Aza, but my symptoms haven't been that bad so nothing has happened. The follow up colonoscopy after a year showed some ulcers around the TI join, and after that I was given Budesonide (Entocort) and then told to...

My story need advice about CT scan

I was diagnosed after a CT scan. I had to drink the horrible liquid and had the IV, but it was fine. Nothing bad at all. I had most the same symptoms as you from the sound of it. If you have inflammation in the small bowel the colonoscopy might not be able to see it hence the scan. Hope you...

    Side effect of budesonide?

Sounds like acid reflux. I had some nausea for the first couple of days but then was fine.

    Lack of nutrition, where next?

My doctors didn't seem concerned about the weight loss (9st, 126 lbs 6 foot male), but I certainly was. Then I was told I needed surgery and suddenly it was "we need to get you in as good a shape as possible for surgery", and had me talk to a dietician and take Ensure. The GI consultant...

Biopsies negative but ulcers in ileum?

Can they take biopsies from the Ileum? I thought not as your small bowel is a lot smaller. The biopsies from my first colonoscopy showed nothing, but the valve wouldn't open so they couldn't see the ileum.

    Lack of nutrition, where next?

When i was quite ill with a stricture (gurgling might suggest a stricture) I turned around the weight loss by having Ensure in the morning and a Complan shake in the evening. Ensure you can get on prescription but I just bought some off the internet. Complan you can buy in the supermarket. I...

Symptoms of a flare or nerve issues?

I bought an IBS book (back when I thought it was still IBS) which has a whole section on musculoskeletal issues because the author claims about 20% of IBS patients' issues are actually nothing to do with their digestive tracts.

What could be causing my pain?

Several doctors felt my abdomen and said nothing felt wrong but I had a stricture that showed up on the CT scan, and a fistula that they only found during surgery. Hope you get some answers.

Nerve issues or having a flare up?

You haven't had the B12 test before? That would be the obvious thing but other deficiencies can cause neuropathy too.

    Pension

I'm 44 and only started paying into a pension a couple of years ago. I don't see it makes any difference; if you find yourself unable to work paying into a pension is not something you're going to be able to do. If you're not an upper rate tax payer you may well be better off saving the money...

Terminal ileitis - waiting for biopsy results

TI is where B12 is absorbed. Chances are you had inflammation there before you noticed any symptoms and that's why your B12 was low before. Unfortunately doctors aren't always so good at looking for the cause.
