Anyone one here have SIBO??

Wondering if anyone on here has SIBO( small intestinal bacterial overgrowth)? I am thinking about ordering a test to check and see if I have this. I have read it can cause all sorts of problems from Gas to inflammation of the intestines, Diarrhea, constipation etc..

I have a feeling I have this. I have taken lots of antibiotics in the past for chronic UTI's and honestly think antibiotics are what caused whatever is going on with my intestines now. I have not been dx with Crohn's at the moment, but have been having issues for the last 5 years. I gets Lots and I mean lots of gas. Literally like every few minutes I have gas and they can be long winded, not your typical flatulence. Also the smell can be Very nasty ( Like sulfur or rotten eggs). Sorry if TMI. I am just trying to figure this all out. I know for SIBO there is a hydrogen breath test you can get to see if there is SIBO. If there is then there is a very strict diet that has to be done as well as either herbal antimicrobials or the prescription Rifaximin. Any thoughts on this?

Anyone on here with suspected SIBO?

Ronroush7: No, I did not ask him about the SIBO because I did not think he would know much about being he is western medicine.

My Little Penguin: I think from all I have read on SIBO was that you have to drink this glucose and then do breath tests for over an hour or so and your breath is measured for either Methane and hydrogen. I think the treatments would be different depending on which one you have. I am thinking about getting tested for it. I know I can order it myself, you do not need a doctor to order it. I have been reading that people who have SIBO , it can cause all sorts of GI issues and even inflammation as well as IBD. I know there is a strict diet that has to be followed.

Whilst I was endlessly waiting for the doctors to diagnose me with something and after scouring every corner of the internet I'd convinced myself it must be SIBO. I was a bit surprised when they said "Crohn's".

I think antibiotics are the treatment. I read somewhere a blog from someone who'd treated his own SIBO by eating raw garlic - probably not a great idea.

Probably SIBO accounts for a large number of cases of what people are told is IBS.

That is just it, everything I am reading about SIBO is that is can cause damage and inflammation in the intestines. I know SIBO is very hard to get rid of, it takes strict diet as well as herbal or antimicrobial medication( usually Xifaximin) to help get rid of the bacteria). I still trying to learn as much about this. Were you ever tested for SIBO with the glucose drink test?

No nothing like that. They just told me Crohns. I did mention it, and the consultant said "there may be some of that as well". I got the impression from him that Crohns is far more likely.

SIBO is when bacteria from your bowel gets up into your small bowel via the ileocaecal valve. Quite a few of us no longer have that valve so should be at high risk of SIBO, but I've never heard it mentioned as a concern.

I think it also depends on what bacteria is overgrown in the intestines. Some bacteria tend to be more pathogenic and can cause issues with inflammation. Most western medicine doctors do not test for SIBO, you usually will have to find an integrative medicine doctor who will test you for it. I have a good friend who just took the test for SIBO and she has it. There are different forms, one is methane and the other is Hydrogen. She had inflammation in her jejunum that the SIBO was causing. I think SIBO can cause a lot of issues from what I have been reading.
