Are we still buying that idea that Crohn's is a chronic auto-immune inflammatory disease?

I'm not sure it is thought of as an autoimmune disease? I cannot find any official bodies that refer to it as this, at least in the UK such as the NHS or NICE. It is thought of as an immune related disease, but does not appear to be an autoimmune disease (in that the immune system is not being...

    Blood - worried!!!

They will be highly unlikely to operate on you unless: - it is a necessity to save your life (such as you have a bowel perforation or obstruction) - or you have scar tissue that has caused such a narrowing in your bowel that it is dangerous and could lead to an obstruction/ is affecting your...

    Is more flares post-colonoscopy normal?

Hello, sorry to hear what you are going through. It is probably not 7 flares but rather all the same flare that varies in intensity. Budesonide can take a few weeks to take effect I can't remember exactly how long but maybe as many as 4-8 weeks? For some people it doesn't always work and they...

    Surgery Advice

I had emergency open surgery for a perforation and abscess at my terminal ileum where it meets my colon. I also did not need a stoma and had the two ends connected as a resection. I was in hospital about 5-7 days. I lost a lot of weight and was initially in a lot of pain but picked up very...

    Surgery

I have read many accounts of people who had a surgery and then did very well for more than 10 years after. Some people may need another surgery in the future but with the rapid advances in medication hopefully that number is falling. Some people will never need another surgery.

Could this be crohn? Pain in jejunum

I had ileal ulcers with a calproctectin of 65. Anything is possible

Could this be crohn? Pain in jejunum

It looks like you were investigated already for IBD two years ago and had a colonoscopy in 2015. What happened back then? You were prescribed entocort, which is designed to treat inflammation in the terminal ileum and further down. The highest my calproctectin has been is 142. I had ulcers at my...

Could this be crohn? Pain in jejunum

The referred pain I used to get was years ago before I had any inflammation in my duodenum and it was isolated to the end of my ileum only. There are lots of us who get referred pain on this site. You may have 4 diseases but as yet you do not have a diagnosis of Crohn's. I do. Therefore I know a...

I have Crohns and my daughter has issues too

If your daughter has Crohn's disease, burying your head under the sand and pretending she doesn't to avoid a diagnosis is the absolute worst thing you can do and is the opposite of what is in her best interests. What if she has Crohn's and suffers a medical emergency while thousands of miles...

    Looking for some insight

From what you have said I think it is highly unlikely that you have bowel cancer. It is good that you are getting a colonoscopy. You may need to prepare yourself for a diagnosis of Crohn's disease.

I have Crohns and my daughter has issues too

I have Crohn's and my dad has UC. We are totally different in terms of symptoms, location of disease, age of onset of disease, severity, treatment, everything!

Could this be crohn? Pain in jejunum

My pain when it is bad is high up above the belly button but below the rib cage. I thought the problem must be my stomach. Turns out it was referred pain and the problem was the end of my colon and start of my small bowel. A colonoscopy really is the best way forward. Your calproctectin results...

    Not Crohn's nor UC

I had surgery for a perforation and upon examining the diseased bit of bowel that was removed the pathology said no evidence of Crohn's. I have had colonoscopies, which show ulcerations and inflammation and the pathology said no evidence of Crohn's. My blood tests are all normal. But I most...

    My day

Both have rare risks. The colonoscopy would be the best first step.

    Possible diagnosis of crohns

Hi, it would help if you could tell us a little bit about your symptoms that led to you getting a colonoscopy and if you know what was seen on the colonoscopy. Do you have any family history of IBD? Do you have any other medical conditions? Do you take NSAID medications?

    Colonoscopy biopsies and images taken

Just wanted to say as you have a family history of IBD (your aunt?) then they really should be taking you seriously! It sounds like you have a good plan and I hope things get moved along now you plan to go private.

Hi! (and question about experience with...)

Crohn's disease is unpredictable and can have serious consequences that can occur out of the blue. Some people have no symptoms but have silent irreversible damage going on on the inside to their bowels. Some people can have mild disease, but this can progress to become severe. Before the use...

    New member facing surgery

Things might have been different for me had I been medicated straight after. I may not have flared.

    New member facing surgery

It will certainly be easier and you will be out the hospital quicker. I was out after around 7 days. You know I have no idea if I lost the valve. But I am able to absorb b12 and don't have diarrhea so maybe not?!

    New member facing surgery

It was where the small bowel joins the large bowel that was resected and appendix removed. Mine was open, the fact that yours should be lapro is a strong bonus
