My Story as a Crohns Mom

So happy to hear the infusion went by without any problems. You must be so proud of your son, and all that he has accomplished, despite the hand that has been dealt to him. I also want to say, that as some of the members here know, my child was on Remicade for many years - and was actually the...

    My Story

Igor, I cant imagine how difficult it must be for you to pay for your own medical costs! That must be so very hard for you and your family. Is Module an elemental drink? In other words, is it specially made for people with gastic problems and malabsorption? Kelly

    EN question

I always ask for a copy of any medical report - labs, x-rays, ct scans, colonoscopies etc. After they tell me what they have found, which is normally lacking in information, I simply ask for a hard copy of the report for my "medical file".

    Intro/ 4yo w Crohn's/ EN vs. SCD???

My medical insurance company will cover 100% of the formula AS LONG AS YOU STATE THAT IT IS THE SOLE SOURCE OF NUTRITION FOR THE PATIENT. Our GI doctor would write a letter stating that it is the sole source of nutrition, and it was covered. It always frustrates me so much when I read about...

    Intro/ 4yo w Crohn's/ EN vs. SCD???

Hi KB's mom, So sorry to hear about your little one. My child was diagnosed with crohns at age 12, and was very sick for years - until we tried EN. It absolutely gave her, her life back, and the results were miraculous. I have dealt with Crohns for a very long time (15 years), and my advice...

    Fistula... Abscess and voids?

I agree with stretch. If I were in your shoes, I would talk to your doctor about having a seton stitch put in. It is just a little rubber band that they thread through the fistula to keep it draining, so it avoids filling up inside you causing an abscess. Once the inflammation is gone, it...

    Whats the Crohn's Disease symbol?

If you get a stem cell transplant for crohns, the hospital hands out presents and purple ribbons to you on the day of the transplant. So, I agree. Purple ribbons.

    So upset and angry- Vent!

You need to let that "boss" know that just because someone else can do more than you, it is not a "bad" reflection on you at all. With all illnesses, you have mild, moderate and severe. Tell him there are people with MS that can play football and run around just fine - and others are confined...

Think my son has another fistula.

So sorry to hear that your son has another fistula forming. It is very frustrating to say the least. I noticed that you live near the world renowned Texas Childrens Hospital in Houston. Could you perhaps contact them and ask if any of their colorectal surgeons use the VAAFT procedure? The...

    Sticky Crohn's Forum Candle Room

For Evan. My daughter's 13 year old little friend, who just lost his fight against leukemia. His dad said that as he lay there towards the end with his eyes closed, he would ask him, "where are you?", and he would say "in school with my friends". I hope you saw us from heaven laying in the...

Humira being denied after a year

I just researched this for you and found that there is an Abbott Patient Assistance Program you can apply to. I would contact them, and let them know the situation. This is part of what I read: myHUMIRA reimbursement counselors can offer assistance with unfavorable coverage decisions. We...

    Strictures & Surgery

If surgery is necessary, ask your doctor if a strictureplasty would be possible for your son, instead of a resection. Kelly

Hi Michael, Thank you for sharing your story with us. You are truly an inspiration to everyone out there. The fact that you are so willing to share your journey with us all, benefits each and every one of us who reads it. It sounds perfectly normal and very understanding, if now after all...

    Migraines!

I suffer from severe migraines. I once had a migraine that lasted over 2 months, and they eventually had to hospitalize me to break the headache with iv meds. The last few years I normally would get about 3 migraines a week. 3 weeks ago, I saw a new neurologist, and he put me on a...

    Newbie Intro/14y/o daughter w/Crohn's

To try and make you feel a bit more at ease about these meds, I just wanted to share that my child has been on Remicade, on and off for 14 years - and has never had any ill effect from the drug. We would also pre-medicate with Zantac, Zyrtec, Tylenol, and iv benedryl, and we never had a bad...

    High insurance premium

http://www.mrmib.ca.gov/ California Major Risk Health Insurance Program. Check it out. I think there are currently about 28 different states that offer high risk insurance programs to their residents and California is one of them. It is meant for people with certain conditions which would...

    Complete Crohn's 'Dummy'

Welcome to the board:) Looks like everyone has done a good job answering your question. The only thing I would like to add, is that if you find that you cannot have dairy and miss having the cream, there is non-dairy cream that you can substitute it for. If you live in the States, I think...

    How do YOU gain weight?

I have a friend who has crohns and is a body builder - and he supplements his meals with a high calorie, high protein, low sugar etc drink - that is specially formulated for IBD as it is already pre-digested - it has done all the work for your stomach already. In the States it is called...
