Crohns: on the pill but missed my period?

Are you underweight Yogi? Sometimes if you have a sudden weight loss, or are significantly underweight, your periods can stop. Mine have stopped due to low weight, but never simply because I'm flaring so long as my weight has been stable. Stress has also contributed to my periods being late in...

How often do you get bloodwork?

Does the dr think your lingering pain is due to inflammation? Blood tests can be helpful, they can tell you whether you have inflammation in your body among other things. They can also be helpful for monitoring your Crohn's, suggesting whether you're improving or worsening, etc. You should...

Red Flake in Stool (pic included)

It could well be the tomatoes, it looks like tomato or pepper skin to me. I've never had blood in my stool look like that, but I don't often have blood so perhaps it's better for others to comment on that.

Red Flake in Stool (pic included)

It looks like a piece of fruit or vegetable skin to me. Have you eaten anything with a skin on in the last few days?

Endoscopy & Colonoscopy this Friday afternoon

I think Orchid meant cannula, not catheter - I've certainly never had a catheter before!

    Low potassium all the time.Help!!

I have an issue with potassium too, my lowest tested has been 2.8. I've been prescribed some effervescent tablets which dissolve in water. They really do taste awful (like salty crayons) but they have helped me a lot. They're called Sando-K if you want to ask your GP about them.

Using Stelara For Children With Crohn's

The UK trial of Stelera is infusion based for the first part. The later parts are injection based. So yes it is possible to get Stelera as an infusion.

Bathroom habit weirdness - D&C at the same time?

I have had something similar. When I was a teen I was sent to hospital by my GP as I was in agonising pain, and my GI did an xray which showed I was full of stool. That was despite the fact that I'd had been running to the toilet with loose BM's for the past couple of days. I sometimes now get...

There's one called Breaking the Vicious Cycle, which is about the specific carbohydrate diet.

    Why won't it go!!

I may be wrong but I don't think antibiotics are generally helpful for anal fissures. Fistulas and abscesses yes but not fissures. Antibiotics are only helpful if there's an infection. When I had an anal fissure my GP prescribed Glyceryl Trinitrate which was very helpful. I think there are...

How long to get approval for Remicade in the UK?

For those of you in the UK, how long did it take to get approval to go on Remicade? I'm seeing my IBD nurse in a couple of weeks about starting an anti-tnf (hopefully Remi) and I'd like an idea of how much longer I will then have to wait until I can start the infusions. Is it quite a quick or...

Huge increase in Crohn's hospital admissions

I saw this on the TV this morning. There was a four fold rise in hospital admissions, which seems massive, although they didn't really give a reason for it. I was annoyed about the junk food comment, I don't think they really did us Crohn's suffers much justice.

    MRE - the contrast?!

The volume of liquid is quite a lot, I imagine it could be difficult if you're finding it hard to keep liquids down although for me I had quite a lot of time to drink it. I had to drink klean prep for my MRE and it made my tummy feel quite unsettled, but other people have reported drinking...

    Ways to cheer yourself up

Doing a bit of gardening usually cheers me up and helps to clear my mind. I like crafting too - mainly card making and decopatch.

Pentasa - blood or stains in toilet

When I was on Pentasa my urine would turn red if there was bleach in the toilet. If there were no chemicals then my urine was a normal colour, it only seemed to change with bleach.

Bowel Prep - your faves and worsts

The worst I've had taste-wise is KleanPrep. The best taste-wise are Picolax and Citramag, although the Citramag had such a strong effect I felt like I was going to die from the severe cramping it caused.
