Hi everyone.
My names Kate and I recently moved from the UK to Australia. Just before leaving I was diagnosed with Crohns. It's not too bad at the moment, but I am struggling with talking to people about it. I havent made many new friends here yet, and don't want to be labelled as the 'ill girl'. Im also waiting to meet with my new Gastro next month. I hope they're as nice as my old one back home.
I currently take Pentasa and Azathioprine.
Im looking to meet people my age that I can talk to about my Crohns who understand.

Hello :)
I was just diagnosed with Crohns disease in May at the age of 18. Having Crohns disease is nothing to be ashamed off. Im sure you will make friends soon and once you feel like you know them well enough tell them all about your Crohns Im sure they will be very supportive and understanding :) I know my friends are and I tell them everything about it (and I mean absolutely everything about my crohns :p)!!
Im also on Azathioprine and im on Remicade every 8weeks. Im only new to Crohns aswell so I cant offer much advice as im still learning as well but if you need anyone to talk to feel free to message me :)
Good Luck and I hope you keep well :)

Hey Kate. Welcome to the forum! Crohns is nothing to be ashamed of but I understand not wanting to let anyone know until your comfortable. Go at your own pase and I'm sure anyone who is your friend(or willing to be your "true" friend) won't care if your healthy or not. Good luck

Hey guys, thanks for the replies.
Im not ashamed of my Crohns, its just that I want my new friends to know me, before they know me for having Crohns. I was only diagnosed 4 months before coming here. Everything in my life right now is so new.
I think I just need somewhere where I can come and talk with people who understand.

Hi Katie ! I am also 15 and was diagnosed with Crohn's about a month ago.
I know how you feel !
I'm going through a very tough time right now ! I hope everything goes well.
I currently cannot eat anything and I am in the hospital.
Everything is Intravenous and I have to have total parental nutrition through a pick line.
I hope everything goes well for you and your Crohn's stays at bay ! :)

Katie, Stay strong it's hard at first but after a while its just becomes a lifestyle, docs, meds and diet does help though my GI said it doesnt but I have noticed gluten free foods help with feeling better and energy. I was diagnosed in March and I still get frustrated. This has helped me though: Liquid vitamins much easier on tummy, b12 shots for energy, and metabolisim and iron infusion for anemia and remicade infusion for treatment. I will keep you and all in my prayers. It isnt fair but its our reality. It will only make you stronger but thats in between the frustration and crying bouts. :)

Hi Kate:)
I am also 15 (turning 16 in 9 days:) and have Crohns disease;) at times it is tough keeping up with friends and school work, but if you pick the right ones your friends will be there for you through everything you have to go through. I hope you make some great friends, and i will be your online buddy:) sounds like you are having an adventure moving to Australia! i live in Germany, so i am also experiencing a huge change, hope to hear from you soon, and don't be afraid to P.M me. (same for you susie95)

Thanks again guys. It's good to know there are peole of my age here.
I don't really talk to anyone about my Crohns. My friends back in the UK were fab, I hope I can find nice ones here too. I really miss them and my family.:(

Hi Kate,

Believe me you are not alone in the way you feel, Ive often thought that everyone considers me as 'the ill boy' when I first got diagnosed, but you know what once you find your balance people won't even notice unless you tell them so.

Ive also found that people who do refer to you as the ill girl really aren't worth acknowledging.

Ive suffered since a young age and I've only just turned 25 and at the moment I'm on prep for a scope and I do think christ why me? lol

But things do get better and you will have all the support on here you need emotionally, medically and even if you just want to vent.

Wish you all the best
Aaron

theres also a teens forum in the uk called IBD & Me Its awful to use (logs you out after 10mins, really hard to find posts etc) but they do have a section if you want to add others like yourself on facebook.
