18 biopsies taken

I am waiting on pins and needles for my biopsy results. Anyone have that many taken during a colonoscopy?

Eighteen? I had five taken and my GI was impressed by the surgeon's diligence.

I'm pretty sure 18 biopsies in a single colonoscopy is high.

The dr said that my colon was nasty. Not to be gross but he said it was full of puss and was rancid. Way to make a girl feel good! He also said "I didn't take one, I didn't take two, I took 18 biopsies". Which scares the bejesus out of me.

I'm sorry to hear all of this. Can understand for sure how it would scare one to be told all this at once. But, we're here for you. Please keep us updated on how things go and how you're doing. Sending lots of hugs your way. :hug:

They usually don't take that much because of the bleeding risks.

Hello Berley Kay, I had 14 biopsies a couple of months ago. It was by far the most I have ever had taken. Days later I had severe rectal bleeding which I blamed on the biopsies. 4 days later it was confirmed as a perforated bowel caused by one of the biopsies, I had blood transfusions and surgery. I felt 14 had been too many but my IBD nurse said there was a formula which was (X amount of biosies per centimetre of affected bowel) Needless to say I will be nervous of biopsies at my next colonoscopy. Regardless of the formula the 14 seemed excessive but I was offered an explanation and I'm sure you will be too. I don't feel so bad about mine knowing that you had 18!
