Hi everyone,

I haven't been around for a while - I found that many of my sentences started with "On my Crohn's forum, someone said..."! So I decided to self-exclude for a little while!

I've was on Imuran since last October or so, and about March my GI switched me to 6-MP cause I was concerned about the amount of hair loss. Though they are basically the same drug, he thought there was a chance it would reduce on 6-MP. It hasn't. Thankfully I had thick hair to start with, but I'm now down to a tiny little pony tail and it's very limp. And I think my shower drain is going to clog up very very soon!

What I really want to know is...does the hair loss ever stop? Does it get to a certain point and then just start growing back? I've seen that a lot of people have stopped taking it for this reason, but has anyone kept taking it and gone bald? The drug itself seems to be working ok, I certainly have less BM's, but I just don't think I can keep going with this. I know there are products like Biotin etc, but do they work? And of course stressing about losing hair is probably only making me lose more!

It's silly I know if this is the biggest problem I have, but I'm a girl and I really like my hair!!!

If anyone has any experiences either way, I'd love to hear from you...

Try Biotin. It definitely worked for me but it does take a couple months to see a difference. I buy it at GNC and it's only one pill a day. There are other brands out there but they require multiple pills. You can also use a Biotin shampoo but I don't know how much it really works. Although it certainly doesn't hurt.

My hair loss was not from the 6MP because when I started losing hair, I was not taking it yet. I think mine was from Prednisone, or just from being in a flare...not sure which.

Best of luck to you, hope it works. I know it's devastating to lose your hair. I too had VERY thick hair, thankfully. As if we don't have enough to deal with this disease....

Agree on the biotin! it's worth a try. I used to lose tons of hair and since taking it I lose a lot less. My hair and fingernails seem stronger too.
I take 900 mcg (3-300 mcg tablets) I bought them at Puritan's Pride www.puritan.com
They often have buy 1 get 2 free or buy 2 get 3 free sales.
