My GI doubled my does of 6MP to 100 mg on the 17th. I actually felt fantastic on Saturday and Sunday afternoon I started to get pretty severe pain in my abdomen.

Monday was a holiday here and wouldn't you know that it got really bad and by early evening I was in tears... Emailed my GI's office around midnight as my GP is away for a couple of weeks and his secretary called me Tuesday morning and told me to go through the ER.

I was admitted yesterday and will be here at least until tomorrow. YUCK.

After a couple of ultrasounds, what feels like gallons of blood work and a million team members who don't seem to talk to each other - the diagnosis is acute pancreatitis from the 6MP.

I miss my kids, I miss food, and I feel weak and shaky. They have me on dilaudid, zofran, gravol, heparin, flagyl and IV fluids. And despite the IV I have to have injections into my shoulders and stomach, and take the rest of the pills by mouth.

I got upgraded to jello and I have never been so excited to eat! I don't know how you can mess jello up, but the lemon jello tasted like feet. And that's not good.

I miss my babies and want to be at home but I am grateful for the pain relief.

Oh Im so sorry your going through such a terrible time!! BIG HUGS....I am a mom myself with littel ones (1 and 3) at home. Ive been hospitalized 8 times for a week or more last year. I was never allowed to eat, and I missed my children terribly. I hope you get better quickly and get home to your family. Good Luck

Doubled the dose? Man that's a high dose of 6mp. I've never taken anything over 75mg and they stopped there and went the surgery route since the meds weren't working (this was over 10 years ago). I'm sorry this happened to you and I hope you can see your kids soon as I know visiting is never the same as being there all the time.

I just mentally slapped your doctor for you. Take care!

Oh Bev... That's so much time away from the babies! 8 times in a year? I have no business complaining!

Thanks for slapping my doc for me. I like that image. Especially at the moment as I scratch myself with my hairbrush because I am apparently getting sensitive to the dilaudid.

It's nearly 3 am and I want to sleep. :)

Sorry to hear that you're have problems with the 6MP. Azathioprine did the same for me even on the low, sliding dose, right from the start.

Hope your back with the kids soon.

Hi Janny

Sorry to hear you are having such a bad time with 6mp.I also had horrific side affects with 6mp & azathioprine. The highest dose of 6mp i took was 50mg,after a few weeks the side affects started to kick in - it knocked me out.
I was so ill i could not get out of bed. Both of those drugs made me feel more ill than CD did.I was told 90% of patients have no problems with these drugs -from what i have read on this forum i find that very hard to beleive.I hated what those drugs did to me so i started looking for alternative help - thankfully i read the research of Dr Ivan Danhof. His research stated that the very large molecules in mucopolysaccarides had powerful immune system modulating properties. That led me to Serovera AMP,which i have gone on to have life changing success with, without any side affects.
During the many years i suffered with CD, colds, sniffles, shivers, sore throats etc just became part of everyday life.Since i have been taking Serovera i no longer suffer with those anymore & i now have complete remission from CD.
Thank God.

I hope you are feeling better ASAP

I had problems with6mp within a week and took myself off it cause it was xmas time and when my doc called he said to go off it. I never recommend that to anyone, it is just cause I have had this disease for over 20 years and know my body and my Gi. I hate the hospital too but even though you miss your family, you are in the right place, let us know how you make out.

Yuck, lemon Jell-O that tastes like feet???? That's enough to make me want to slap my doctor. Best of luck to ya, hope you are on the mend soon and can get out of there!

I had pancreatitis too when I was on it. I didn't get the pain, but I did vomit for 12 hours straight.
Half the hospitals in Canada use Kozy Shack brand instead of real jello. I hate it either way, but I've heard that it's just not as good as the real stuff.
