Hey everyone. I started 50mg of 6MP 2 nights ago. The first night I had the nausea and also stomach cramps. Last night I had a bit of nausea that went away, but the trouble came this morning. I could barely open my eyes, they are extremely blood shot, and I have a high temp. I'm taking antibiotics for a UTI right now so that could have something to do with it I guess. It just seems odd that only after 2 doses I feel so crappy. Does it get better as you take it longer? Does anyone break it up, half in the morning and half at night? I'd like to try that and see if it helps. I just don't know if 6MP is for me. . . :(

Hey Dana.

I would mention your symptoms to your doc. Some people have a more difficult time adjusting to this specific medication in the beginning, but after a couple weeks it gets better. Though, with a fever, I think it may be something your doctor might want to know about and watch over closely because there are people who just simply cannot tolerate this medication and are basically allergic to it.

Are you taking it with food? A simple adjustment like that can sometimes help. I know with Imuran (azathioprine--similar to 6MP) some people split the dose and have found it better for them, but I am not sureif it is the same way with 6MP. Hopefully someone on here can be more helpful.

Definitely keep your doctor informed though.

I didn't have that bad of adverse reaction to 6mp, but was not responding to the drug and my blood cell count was getting out of range. The doc did mention that the drug does take a quite long time to work (~3-6 months) to work.

Make sure you get your blood work done and let you doc know your symptoms.

Good Luck!

I was intolerant of 6mp

Severe fatigue,Vomiting,Severe muscle ache,Flu,thumping headaches & a low White blood cell count.

6mp was not for me

I took 6mp for 5 weeks

(following 6 months trying to cope with Azathioprine)

On many days i couldn't even get out of bed.
I found the side affects of 6mp horrific.

Thankfully a few months later i found AMP

I've decided I'm going to stop taking it while I'm on the antibiotics, so I'll start it back up in a day or so and go from there. Thanks everyone for the input. I'm going to call my Dr. tomorrow and ask about breaking it up too.

Same problem, couldn't tolerate 6MP. I had drug fever from it, after a week terrible headache and facial pain, fever, nausea, felt like I was going to die. Stopped immediately when I stopped 6mp. A week later I tried 6-MP again and all the symptoms came back the same day, then went away again after stopping the 6MP.
