I just got home from the hospital. Spent Dec 29th through Jan 2nd in the hospital for total kidney failure. I got sick like the day after Christmas & kept steadily getting worse & I went to my doctor, he told me to take heartburn pills & drink gatorade. I knew I was in trouble which is why I went to the doctor because of having a bad case of diarrhea and gas. I was dehydrated but I didn't think I was so bad off cause it'd only been a couple of days.

Woke up on the 29th of Dec & I couldn't move at ALL. It was like my entire body was asleep & I couldn't wake it up. Luckily I wasn't alone & an ambulance was called. They transported me to one hospital & I was given fluids & they said my kidneys had failed & I had a POTASSIUM LEVEL OF 9.4, which I'm told that most people DO NOT SURVIVE.

My blood pressure had dropped below 84/28 & my potassium levels should have killed me. They even told my relatives to come to the hospital cause I may not make it. They were giving me fluids & then transported me to a different hospital where I was in extreme distress & my pressure had only gone up slightly. I had been in the previous hospital for over 2 hours just to get me to a level that wasn't quite so deadly.

I was given fluids and & dialysis treatments & thank god my kidneys came back & from what the doctors said, I probably won't have to have dialysis again & no permanent damage was done. I was there for 4 1/2 days & just got home less than 2 hours ago. I'm actually doing very well & shocked the doctors once again.

They thought sure I was a goner but I defied the odds yet again. I know I have an angel watching over me.

The meds I was on, the doctors believe led to the kidney failure & told me to stop taking it for now. Then last night, I had a seizure in Walmart & in doing some reading, I read that high potassium levels can cause seizures & I think my body had a delayed reaction to what happened. I have to have an MRI. It's been a hell of a year so far, ugh

:hug:OMG, that is a scary experience! I'm so glad you're better, and hopefully you'll get some answers soon. You shouldn't hesitate to go to emergency to get that MRI ASAP.

What medications did they say caused this? In my experience with Crohn's just the opposite has happened, where I get dangerously low potassium.

Sending you healing thoughts and please keep us posted!:hang:

Thanks, I did get a cat scan but they want me to get an MRI too. I have to go through my doctor & he refers me & I get one that way.

As for meds, I was taking Lisinopril for my blood pressure & It caused the kidney failure. Doctors told me it can happen & I think it also contributed to the high potassium levels, which are also responsible for the seizure. I'm really getting tired of going to the hospital let me tell you. I hope things improve

Wow! Glad you made it thru. I hope you can get the meds and your levels evened out. Scary stuff....

Please keep us posted! -Amy
