Asking for a friend... the GI thinks her son may be suffering from abdominal migraines. Does anyone have any experience with this? Especially in kids?

They are in the process of ruling out other things like Celiac and are doing an endoscopy with biopsies in December. The didn't run any labs though, which I found kind of odd. Apparently the GI is pretty confident it's abdominal migraine with IBS.

Anything I can share with her?

DS was dx with abdominal migraines first then cyclic vomiting syndrome associated with abdominal migraines
Then later crohns

So ....
Not a fan

There is one kiddo who has abdominal migraines in M's pain rehab group. She has had every test - scopes, MRE's, breath test, gastric emptying, labs, sitz markers, small bowel follow through and nothing was found.

In her case, she really does have abdominal migraines but I think other things definitely need to be ruled out first.

They told me T had abdominal migraines also...I agree with the others...test for all other things...Abdominal migraines are real (I know someone who has a daughter with them) but they should be a diagnosis of exclusion.

My middle daughter has abdominal migraines. Her are related to dehydration. Very strong history of migraines to her father family.

Hers are considered classic for abdominal migraines. Starts with pain in stomach, loses all colour from her face, throw ups, sleeps for 12 hours, wakes up fine.
No headache but dislike of light. It was only in early teens that she was able to explain she had a type of headache with migraines, just no head pain.

DX at 4 years.

I have a friend who's son has been diagnosed with abdominal migraines. He went to the same GI clinic as my son. They did all the tests and this is what they concluded. He was given medication for the nausea and is monitored, but I think that is it. They do have a history of IBD in their family, so it makes me wonder...
